Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a Sr. Director of Quality Engineering (BOS Product Group) to join our team in Germantown, Maryland or Union, New Jersey. Position Summary:

The Sr. Director of Quality Engineering is responsible for leading the BOS Product Group Quality Engineering organization and establishing the people, processes, tools, and governance necessary to deliver high-quality software products. This executive leadership role is accountable for software quality outcomes across the BOS product portfolio and for building a high-performing quality engineering function that partners closely with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, Operations, and Customer Support teams.

Salary Range: $175 - 225k, based upon qualifications and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide executive leadership for the BOS Quality Engineering organization, including strategy, staffing, performance, and capability development.
  • Own software quality outcomes across the BOS product portfolio, including release readiness, defect reduction, test effectiveness, and customer-impacting quality metrics.
  • Establish and advance quality engineering practices including test strategy, test automation, requirements traceability, release validation, defect prevention, and quality governance.
  • Define and implement testing strategies and tools with emphasis on requirements management, test design, automation, continuous integration, performance testing, and security testing.
  • Establish governance mechanisms that ensure consistent quality engineering practices, standards, processes, and metrics across BOS development teams.
  • Establish quality KPIs and dashboards that provide visibility into defect trends, automation coverage, release quality, escape rates, and production issues.
  • Monitor quality performance and drive corrective actions when results fall below established objectives.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of significant quality issues and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and measured.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve product quality, engineering effectiveness, delivery predictability, and customer outcomes.
  • Review customer-reported quality issues and recurring defect trends and prioritize improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a change agent by fostering a culture where quality is a shared responsibility embedded throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
Leadership & Talent Development:
  • Lead, develop, and mentor Quality Engineering managers, leads, and individual contributors.
  • Establish organizational structure, workforce plans, succession strategies, and capability development programs for the Quality Engineering function.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top quality engineering talent.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and quality engineering tool investments.
Measure of Success:
  • Reduction in escaped defects and customer-reported quality issues.
  • Improvement in automated test coverage across the BOS product portfolio.
  • Consistent achievement of release readiness and release quality objectives.
  • Reduction in critical and high-severity production defects.
  • Improved trend lines for defect resolution cycle time and root-cause remediation effectiveness.
  • Adoption and consistent use of quality engineering standards and governance practices across BOS teams.
  • Positive employee engagement, retention, and development outcomes within the Quality Engineering organization.
  • Delivery of actionable quality metrics and executive reporting that supports business and technology decision-making.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated strategic and tactical leadership with a track record of delivering high-quality enterprise software solutions.
  • 15+ years of progressive software engineering or quality engineering experience, including leadership of quality engineering organizations supporting enterprise software products.
  • Experience leading managers and building high-performing, geographically distributed teams.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and lead organizational change initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of software testing methodologies, quality engineering practices, and industry best practices.
  • Strong experience with test automation frameworks, continuous integration, continuous deployment, and build automation.
  • Experience establishing quality metrics, governance models, and data-driven improvement programs.Experience managing departmental budgets and technology investments.
  • SaaS and/or enterprise software experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and executive communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
