Job Description:

Senior Utilities Designer

We are seeking a Senior Utilities Designer to join our team and lead the design and delivery of complex utility and civil infrastructure projects. In this role, you will serve as the Lead Designer across all project phases, providing technical direction to design and drafting staff while coordinating with clients, suppliers, and contractors to resolve design issues and support successful project execution.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced design professional with strong utility modeling expertise and advanced knowledge of Civil 3D and related design platforms.

What You'll Do
  • Lead design activities for all phases of utility and civil infrastructure projects
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Designers and Drafters
  • Oversee and complete complex design assignments using 2D and 3D CAD tools
  • Act as a key liaison with clients, suppliers, and contractors on design-related matters
  • Develop and review pipe network models for both gravity and pressure systems
  • Prepare plan and profile drawings
  • Use Custom Assemblies and Parts Builder to support project-specific design needs
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design quality, consistency, and constructability
  • Support the development and maintenance of design standards, workflows, and best practices
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a lead design role on utility or civil infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in utility design, drafting, and project coordination
  • Proficiency in pipe network modeling for gravity and pressure systems
  • Experience with plan and profile creation
  • Experience using Custom Assemblies and Parts Builder
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Education and experience consistent with role requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation
  • OACETT membership is an asset
Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, including: Surface modeling, alignments, corridor modeling and pipe networks
  • Knowledge of Bentley software including: MicroStation & OpenRoads Designer
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is an asset
  • Experience with Bentley ProjectWise is an asset
  • Strong capability in both 2D and 3D CAD environments
