Job description

What We're Looking For:
Barge Design Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities Engineering Solution Center in either our Nashville or Knoxville, TN office. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions. This position offers the opportunity to serve as a technical leader, mentor junior staff, and partner closely with clients to deliver high-quality results that support long-term infrastructure and facility performance.
Responsibilities
  • Design & day-to-day guidance of the mechanical project team needed to support the design of mechanical systems for large, multidisciplinary, industrial facilities
  • Leads design of mechanical systems including:
    • Utility piping systems commonly found in industrial facilities and associated P&ID's (e.g. steam, cooling water, chilled water, compressed air, etc.)
    • HVAC Systems
    • Plumbing systems
    • Fire protection system (preliminary designs)
    • Process ventilation
  • Manages & maintains project documentation and supporting calculations.
  • Brings significant technical design expertise engaged in the identification of design considerations and potential issues, participates in the research and development of solutions to engineering and other technical challenges, and is involved in the production or validation of the work applied to those solutions.
  • Supports Project Managers to provide quality drawings and specifications that meet the scope, schedule, and budget for the project.
  • Assists Department Manager, solution center leadership, and staff as a technical adviser
  • Leads complex technical portions of meetings with clients.
  • Develops strong relationships with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering design experience, significant past experience in the consulting or construction industry preferred
  • Familiarity piping codes, IBC building codes, and industry standards
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Experience mentoring early-career engineers and EITs a plus
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 a plus
