Senior Data Engineer / BI Developer (Data Migration & Modernization)
Location: Raleigh, NC 27601 (Onsite)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer / BI Developer with strong expertise in Python, Power BI, SQL, and data migration to support enterprise data modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, reporting solutions, integrations, and migration processes while ensuring high standards of data quality, governance, and performance.
This role involves working with legacy and modern platforms to build scalable data solutions, automate workflows, and deliver business intelligence capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain data migration scripts, ETL pipelines, and automation workflows using Python.
  • Design, build, and optimize data models for reporting and analytics.
  • Develop interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI.
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading (ETL) across databases, APIs, and enterprise applications.
  • Optimize data processing for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
  • Integrate data from cloud platforms, on-premises systems, APIs, and flat files.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into technical solutions.
  • Analyze data quality issues, reconcile datasets, and implement data integrity best practices.
  • Automate recurring reporting and data processing workflows.
  • Maintain technical documentation for data mappings, migration activities, and ETL processes.
  • Participate in architecture, design, and planning activities for enterprise data modernization initiatives.
Required Skills
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Python.
  • 7+ years of experience with Power BI development.
  • 7+ years of strong SQL experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or Ingres.
  • Experience writing and optimizing complex SQL queries for performance.
  • Strong understanding of REST/SOAP APIs, backend architecture, and microservices.
  • Experience designing and executing enterprise data migration or data conversion projects.
  • Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with large-scale migration or modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with legacy system migration projects.
