Job description


The Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) seeks an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Strategist to guide our cybersecurity program and protect mission-critical infrastructure and operational systems. In this role, you will orchestrate security governance across complex technical environments while enabling business objectives and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. This position is ideal for a strategic leader who balances rigorous risk management with enabling innovation, and who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
  • Define and implement security policies and procedures that protect information assets while enabling operational efficiency
  • Establish proactive threat detection and rapid incident response protocols to minimize downtime and operational risk
  • Partner with operational and business leaders to align cybersecurity strategies with organizational priorities and federal missions
  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity regulations and DOE-specific requirements (FISMA, NIST, etc.)
  • Lead risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies across IT infrastructure and cyber-physical systems
  • Establish governance frameworks for AI deployments and autonomous systems, ensuring security and auditability in mission-critical applications
  • Oversee lifecycle management of emerging technologies (AI, postquantum cryptography, cyber-physical systems) to prevent vulnerabilities and technical debt
  • Establish metrics and continuous improvement processes to measure program effectiveness
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging security technologies and methodologies
  • Provide executive-level security reporting and risk communication to CIO, senior leadership, and governance bodies
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders (IT, legal, compliance, HR) to coordinate security across the enterprise
  • Educate the organization on cybersecurity risks and foster a security-conscious culture

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security/Assurance, or similar
  • Experience: Minimum 10-12 years in cybersecurity, including at least 4 years in a senior cybersecurity leadership or equivalent role
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge across multiple cybersecurity domains (access management, threat detection, incident response, compliance, infrastructure security, etc.)
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Government/Regulated Environment: Experience managing cybersecurity in federal, critical infrastructure, or highly regulated organizations preferred
  • Experience navigating Federal cybersecurity compliance in a National Laboratory and/or FFRDC research-oriented environment is highly preferred.
