Senior Cs Core Network Engineer information

What is a Senior CS Core Network Engineer?

Senior CS Core Network Engineers are experienced professionals who design, implement, and maintain the core elements of a telecommunications network, specifically the Circuit Switched (CS) core. They ensure reliable voice and data communication by managing network components such as MSCs (Mobile Switching Centers), HLRs (Home Location Registers), and gateways. Their responsibilities also include troubleshooting, optimizing network performance, integrating new technologies, and supporting large-scale network upgrades. Typically, these engineers work closely with other network teams and vendors to maintain service quality and network security.

How does a Senior CS Core Network Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during network upgrades or optimizations?

As a Senior CS Core Network Engineer, you will frequently collaborate with teams such as radio network engineers, transmission specialists, and IT support during network upgrades or optimization projects. This collaboration involves joint planning sessions, troubleshooting calls, and integrating solutions to ensure seamless voice and data services. You’ll often act as a technical lead, coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders to implement changes with minimal service disruption. Effective communication and documentation are key, as you’ll need to translate complex core network requirements into actionable tasks for other teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior CS Core Network Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior CS Core Network Engineer, you need deep expertise in mobile core network architecture, signaling protocols (such as SS7, SIP, and Diameter), and a relevant engineering degree. Experience with core network equipment (e.g., Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia), network monitoring tools, and certifications like CCNP or vendor-specific credentials are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and troubleshoot complex issues. These skills ensure reliable network performance, rapid resolution of outages, and the successful implementation of new services in telecom environments.

Job description

Job Description Summary:
The Senior Manager, Network Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and optimization of The Coca-Cola Company's global network infrastructure. This role leads advanced network engineering initiatives and ensures secure, scalable, and resilient connectivity across data centers, cloud environments, and global offices.
The Senior Manager partners closely with cybersecurity, cloud, workplace, applications, and business teams to enable reliable digital operations while driving continuous improvement, cost efficiency, and innovation aligned with Coca-Cola's technology strategy, while serving as a primary strategic validator to ensure partner-led designs and deployments align with enterprise standards and do not introduce operational risks.
Key Responsibilities
Network Strategy & Architecture
  • Lead the design and evolution of global network architecture, including campus, WAN, SD-WAN, data center, cloud networking, and remote access solutions.
  • Ensure network solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and business growth objectives.
  • Drive network modernization initiatives, including cloud-first and zero-trust networking strategies, ensuring execution partners achieve tactical implementation milestones with operational precision.

Operations & Service Delivery
  • Oversee day-to-day network operations to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability across global environments.
  • Acts as first line of defense for network issues
  • Establish and monitor SLAs, KPIs, and operational metrics; lead problem management and root cause analysis for major incidents.
  • Partner with managed service providers and vendors to ensure effective service delivery and contract compliance, and precise alignment on tactical engineering deliverables.

Security & Risk Management
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity teams to embed security-by-design across all network solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate network risks, vulnerabilities, and obsolescence, exercising technical oversight over partner compliance regarding lifecycle management, vulnerability remediation, and firmware optimization.

Financial & Vendor Management
  • Manage network engineering budgets, forecasting, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Lead vendor performance management for network technologies and services, conducting detailed technical audits of partner service delivery, capacity utilization, and operational performance metrics.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, including large-scale enterprise or global environments.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise networking technologies (e.g., routing/switching, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, load balancing, and cloud networking).
  • Proven experience supporting hybrid and cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).

Technical Knowledge (Preferred)
  • Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or similar enterprise networking platforms
  • Cloud networking and connectivity (ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, VPNs)
  • Network automation, monitoring, and orchestration tools
  • ITIL-based service management practices

Leadership & Behavioral Competencies
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, global organization
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
