Job description

Nevada Sports Net is seeking a Sports Producer/MMJ to join our team. This hybrid position is designed for someone who will actively engage in hands-on experience in sports production, shooting, editing, on-air reporting and content creation across television and digital platforms. The Sports Producer/MMJ will support daily sports coverage by producing a weekly sports and culture show and assist in daily shooting and editing of local sports coverage. This person also will have the opportunity for occasional reporting in the field and get on-air experience.

Primary Responsibilities                                  

* Produce "The Biggest Little Show," a weekly 30-minute sports/culture program by writing scripts, building rundowns, coordinating video/graphics and booking interviews

* Backup producer of "NSN Tonight," our daily 30-minute sports show

* Shoot sports events and feature stories

* Edit highlights, packages and features using non-linear editing systems

* Assist with live shots and field production

* Shoot, write and edit sports stories independently or with guidance from senior staff

* Assist in coverage of major events like American Century Championship, Reno Rodeo, Nevada athletics games

* Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches and community sports figures

* Contribute sports content for digital platforms, including web and social media

* Assist in promoting NSN's coverage across personal platforms

Additional Responsibilities

* Work closely with sports anchors, reporters and producers to execute coverage plans

* Help plan coverage around games, tournaments and major sports events

* Perform other duties as assigned by Station leadership

Qualifications

* Strong knowledge of sports (knowledge of Northern Nevada sports a bonus)

* Strong interest in sports journalism and storytelling

* Basic shooting, writing and video editing skills

* Creative mindset that looks for ways to elevate overall sports coverage

* Ability to learn newsroom systems and production workflows

* Strong work ethic, initiative and willingness to take feedback and direction

* Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays

* Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

* Ability to lift and carry broadcast equipment

* Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Education/Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field or equivalent experience

* 1 year of experience in a professional newsroom (internship or campus-media experience preferred for entry-level candidates)

* Experience working with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop

* Experience working with ENG (Z280 or similar) and cinematic cameras (FX3 or similar)

* Experience working with Sprout Social (or similar)

* Experience working with Avid iNEWS and Expression a bonus

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and operate broadcast equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to navigate sports venues and field locations.
  • Ability to drive to field assignments.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
