| Aspect | Senior Controls Engineer | Controls Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's degree in engineering, experience, possibly certifications like Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) | Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, entry to mid-level experience |
| Work Environment | Design, development, troubleshooting, project leadership in industrial or manufacturing settings | Implementing control systems, programming, testing, and maintenance in similar environments |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Manufacturing, automation, process control companies | Similar industries, often as entry to mid-level roles within the same sectors |
The main difference is experience level and responsibility. Senior Controls Engineers typically lead projects, design complex systems, and mentor junior staff, while Controls Engineers focus on implementing and maintaining control systems. Both roles require similar credentials and work in comparable environments, but the senior role involves more leadership and advanced technical skills.
The Senior Construction Manager – Mechanical will support big scale and complex industrial manufacturing projects by leading and coordinating Mechanical construction activities in the field while helping ensure safe, high-quality, on-schedule, and cost-effective project delivery.
This role will provide day-to-day oversight of Mechanical contractors, specialty vendors, and general contractor interfaces, with close coordination among client representatives, our leadership, design engineers, construction teams, project controls, and commissioning teams.
The position will support constructability reviews, installation sequencing, contractor coordination, schedule recovery planning, quality inspections, change coordination, and resolution of mechanical field issues.
The role requires strong understanding of U.S. construction practices, site safety requirements, contract administration, codes/standards coordination, and the execution needs of complex industrial and high-tech facilities.
The Senior Construction Manager – Mechanical is expected to promote proactive communication, timely escalation of risks, practical problem-solving, and alignment with client expectations and our standards.
Job Description
Lead daily field coordination and construction management for mechanical scopes across design coordination, procurement support, construction, commissioning support, start-up support, turnover, and close-out.
Oversee contractors and specialty vendors to confirm work is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, safety expectations, quality standards, and project schedule commitments.
Coordinate Mechanical interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, process, controls, telecom/data, fire alarm/life safety, instrumentation, utility, commissioning, and operations teams.
Review Mechanical installation sequences, look-ahead schedules, manpower plans, material delivery status, construction constraints, and recovery plans; escalate risks and required decisions in a timely manner.
Support constructability reviews, value engineering, design clarification, field change coordination, RFI/submittal review follow-up, and resolution of technical and construction coordination issues.
Monitor field progress, prepare site observation reports, track action items, coordinate punch-list work, and support verification of work completion against project milestones.
Support quality management activities, including inspection readiness, installation verification, deficiency tracking, corrective action follow-up, and turnover documentation for mechanical systems.
Coordinate with project controls, cost management, scheduling, procurement, document control, and contract administration teams to maintain accurate project status, change records, and construction documentation.
Support evaluation of Mechanical contractor changes requests, field impacts, productivity constraints, schedule impacts, and related backup documentation in coordination with commercial and cost management resources.
Plan and facilitate Mechanical coordination meetings, field walks, contractor progress reviews, issue-resolution workshops, and client update meetings; publish or support meeting minutes and action tracking as required.
Support commissioning, energization, system turnover, testing coordination, as-built documentation, O&M manual collection, permit/inspection close-out, and final handover activities.
Communicate regularly with client stakeholders in a clear, professional, and culturally aware manner to support alignment, transparency, and client satisfaction.
Minimum Requirements & Expectations
BS/BA degree in Mechanical engineering, construction management, engineering, or a related field is highly preferred; equivalent field leadership experience may be considered.
15+ years of relevant construction, construction management, field engineering, project management, or contractor oversight experience.
Strong background in mechanical works for large-scale industrial, semiconductor, battery, data center, or high-tech facilities, including HVAC systems, chilled water and condenser water systems, process piping, utility distribution systems, cleanroom mechanical systems, exhaust and ventilation systems, compressed air systems, fire protection systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment installation, controls integration, and related mechanical construction packages.
Solid understanding of U.S. construction delivery methods, site safety practices, contractor procurement, change management, claims awareness, inspection processes, and construction contract administration.
Working knowledge of Mechanical design documents, specifications, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, field installation methods, inspection requirements, and commissioning/turnover processes is required.
Ability to coordinate multiple contractors, manage field constraints, identify schedule or quality risks, and drive practical resolution with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear client-facing reports, field updates, issue logs, action trackers, and executive summaries.
Bilingual Korean and English capability is mandatory to support Korean client communication, field coordination, and stakeholder alignment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected; experience with Procore, e-Builder, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, Bluebeam, BIM/Navisworks, SharePoint, Teams, or similar platforms is a plus.
Key Competencies
