Summary
RayzeBio is seeking a Senior Automation/Controls Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced automation and control systems for our new radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Indianapolis.
Reporting to Engineering leadership, you will manage high-impact automation projects, integrating cutting-edge technologies in a GMP-regulated facility. This role is responsible for leading cross-functional initiatives, ensuring seamless integration with production systems, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous improvements in safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Lead development, deployment, and lifecycle management of automation and control systems for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Architect and implement robust PLC, HMI, SCADA, and related automation platforms to enable facility expansions and commercialization efforts.
  • Oversee integration of automated systems with existing production lines and corporate business systems, ensuring regulatory and GMP compliance.
  • Optimize automation system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and develop strategies for predictive maintenance.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise in commissioning, validation, and upgrades of process automation equipment and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate extensively with engineering, production, and quality teams to define requirements and deliver high-quality automation solutions.
  • Manage relationships and direct activities with external vendors, partners, and contractors for system selection, installation, and validation.
  • Author, review, and approve detailed technical documentation, including SOPs, system specifications, and validation protocols.
  • Champion compliance with EHS, Radiation Safety, and all relevant regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of safety and quality.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and staff on automation technologies and best practices.
  • Support business needs through up to 15% travel as required and provide on-call support for mission-critical systems after hours.

Education and Experience
  • BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, or related Engineering field required; MS or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in automation/control engineering, ideally within the pharmaceutical or a regulated manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale automation projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of building automation or building management systems (BAS/BMS) is required
  • Previous experience installing, troubleshooting, and replacing PLCs, automation software such as Delta V, Johnsons Controls BMS, or Siemens FMCS.

Skills and Qualification
  • Expert in automation system architecture, design, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA, and HMI development.
  • Prior experience programming with C++, Python, JAVA, or similar programming languages.
  • Proven leadership with the ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor team members.
  • Advanced ability to interpret and create system schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Deep understanding of GMP, validation, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Compensation Overview:
Indianapolis - RayzeBio - IN: $141,515 - $171,483
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee's work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
