Position Summary
Under the supervision and support of one or more Senior Inspectors or Construction Supervisors, performs on site construction project inspection for new construction, repair, and rehabilitation projects. Reads and interprets construction and contract documents and may provide oversight on multiple-simultaneous projects. Carefully observes and reports on the work of the General Construction Contractor and its subcontractors to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Construction Contract.
Job Responsibilities
  • Inspects the construction of all new facilities and rehabilitation projects for NTMWD to determine that such facilities are completed in accordance with all contract documents and work is within District easements.
  • Advises the Inspection Supervisor when the work performed is not per the contract documents, when corrective action is not implemented by the Contractor and critical construction activities that deviate from the drawings and specifications.
  • Witnesses various tests of material such as concrete slump test, compression test and soil density test where needed.
  • Ensures that materials and equipment are installed and stored in accordance with the approved submittals.
  • Generates an accurate and detailed daily report on all activities, weather conditions, work quantities, etc.
  • Documents project photos with detailed descriptions.
  • Verifies the quantity of work and stored materials submitted on each monthly estimate.
  • Is available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving issues that may arise concerning the details of construction.
  • May be required to provide inspection services for multiple less complex projects at varies stages simultaneously.
  • May be required to visit multiple jobsites daily.
  • This position may require working weekends and off-hours depending on the project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Requires two (2) years of construction inspection or similar experience.
  • Must be willing to complete necessary requirements to become APWA CPII Certified and/or IBC/ICC Certified.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Ability to read and understand Pipeline, Utility, and Construction Drawings and specifications.
  • Must have knowledge and ability to read and understand Right-of-Way and Easement Drawings.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
  • Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised environment.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground.
  • Must be able to communicate well with NTMWD team members and all personnel associated with assigned projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, & Construction Management Software.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and possess an aptitude for detail.

Environmental and Physical Working Conditions
Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.
Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to unfavorable worksite conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, dust, dirt, noise, heights and uneven walking surfaces. May be required to office out of the company vehicle. Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 75 pounds of equipment. Equipment used includes surveyor's transit, level, steel tape, and camera. Work may vary depending on information requests.
