Job description

Hartmann Studios is a full-service, employee-owned event strategy, design, and production company with offices in Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay area, and West Des Moines. We create immersive, innovative live experiences for some of the world’s most recognized brands. We’re looking for a senior Technical Producer who can lead the technical delivery of complex, large-scale conferences from concept through execution. This role owns the full event ecosystem - keynotes, expos, breakouts, and ancillary programming - ensuring everything works together seamlessly.

You’ll serve as the technical lead and client partner, connecting creative vision to execution while guiding strategy, solving problems, and keeping teams aligned across multiple environments.

What you’ll do

Lead technical strategy across full conference programs

  • Own execution across keynote, expo, breakout, and multi-track environments
  • Build workflows that support simultaneous programming and multiple venues
  • Ensure consistency and integration across all event components

Serve as the client’s technical advisor

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact
  • Translate ideas into scalable, executable solutions
  • Provide clear guidance, risk assessment, and recommendations

Drive expo and exhibit hall integration

  • Oversee expo floor operations, including power, internet, rigging, and AV
  • Partner with EACs, general service contractors, and venues
  • Align exhibitor needs with overall show production
  • Navigate union environments and complex load-in/load-out sequencing

Lead cross-functional technical teams

  • Guide Technical Directors, Production Managers, Coordinators, and specialists
  • Define scope, roles, and communication across teams
  • Lead the technical organization for each project (project-based leadership)

Shape programs early

  • Get involved before full team activation
  • Help define technical approach, staffing, and vendor strategy
  • Partner closely with the Executive Producer and client teams

Guide budgets and operations

  • Support budget planning across AV, lighting, rigging, scenic, labor, logistics, and venue operations
  • Track costs, identify risks, and find efficiencies without sacrificing quality

Manage execution and technical planning

  • Identify bottlenecks and solve problems in real time
  • Stay calm and decisive during rehearsals and live events
  • Oversee technical documentation, including schedules, system plans, and CAD drawings

Ensure safety and compliance

  • Maintain alignment with venue requirements, regulations, and safety standards
  • Partner with technical teams to uphold best practices
What you bring

We’re looking for someone who has already operated at a high level in this space and understands how complex conferences come together.

Required experience

  • 7+ years in technical production for live events or conferences
  • Experience leading large-scale events (5,000+ attendees or similar complexity)
  • Ownership across multiple event environments (not just keynote or expo alone)
  • Direct expo / tradeshow experience, including exhibitor workflows and EACs
  • Strong knowledge of AV, lighting, rigging, scenic, and show integration
  • Experience leading Technical Directors, Production Managers, and specialists
  • Proven budget ownership across technical areas
  • Comfort working with and interpreting CAD files

You understand

  • The differences between keynote, breakout, and expo environments
  • Exhibitor vs show management workflows
  • Expo infrastructure (power, internet, show services)
  • Multi-track breakout execution and load-in/load-out sequencing
What makes you successful
  • You can see the big picture and understand the details
  • You’re confident working with both clients and technical teams
  • You bring structure and clarity to complex environments
  • You stay calm, proactive, and solutions-focused under pressure
