Job description

Job Summary:
Skyways is a company that designs, builds, and operates fully autonomous long-range cargo aircraft. The role involves developing computer vision systems for autonomous landing and navigation, directly impacting aircraft's ability to identify safe landing areas and operate in various environments.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Develop and deploy computer vision systems for autonomous landing and landing zone evaluation
โ€ข Build perception systems for targetless landing in unstructured and dynamic environments
โ€ข Develop algorithms for terrain understanding, obstacle detection, and environment classification
โ€ข Work with onboard camera, IMU, GPS, and other sensor data in real flight environments
โ€ข Improve system performance using operational flight data, testing, and iteration
โ€ข Collaborate across autonomy, GNC, and flight operations teams to integrate perception into flight behaviors
โ€ข Debug perception and autonomy issues observed during simulation, ground testing, and flight operations
โ€ข Contribute to software architecture, testing, integration, and deployment workflows
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข 5+ years of experience developing and deploying computer vision or perception systems in real-world environments
โ€ข Strong proficiency in C++ and Python
โ€ข Experience with perception systems for robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or aerospace platforms
โ€ข Experience working with real sensor data and operational deployment constraints
โ€ข Strong understanding of camera systems, sensor fusion, and state estimation concepts
โ€ข Experience debugging and improving deployed perception systems using logs, telemetry, or flight data
โ€ข Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving engineering environments
โ€ข Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred:
โ€ข Experience with autonomous aircraft or aerial robotics
โ€ข Experience with landing zone evaluation, terrain classification, or visual navigation systems
โ€ข Background in SLAM, visual odometry, or GPS-denied navigation
โ€ข Experience with embedded or real-time systems
โ€ข Familiarity with ROS2 or similar robotics frameworks
โ€ข Experience deploying perception systems to resource-constrained platforms
