Description
The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a people focused, award-winning, full-service consulting firm that offers a wide array of services including civil and geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, surveying and construction support. Our talented staff of more than 650+ professionals deliver integrated planning, design, engineering and construction solutions.
MSG is seeking a Senior Driller to support geotechnical and environmental drilling investigations based out of Columbus, OH. The Senior Driller will operate drilling equipment, perform subsurface investigations, transport and maintain drilling equipment, and serve as a field leader on project sites.
This position plays a critical role in supporting MSG's geotechnical engineering and environmental services teams by providing high-quality field data collection and investigation services. 
This role is primarily field-based with frequent travel throughout Ohio and occasional out-of-state assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the field safety representative for drilling crews and ensure compliance with Health and Safety Plans, company policies, and applicable regulations during all field investigations.
  • Operate geotechnical and environmental drilling equipment, including GeoProbe 7822DT rigs, to perform auger, direct-push, rotary, mud rotary, and core drilling investigations, and a variety of subsurface sampling techniques.
  • Install downhole instrumentation, including piezometers, inclinometers, and other monitoring devices.
  • Conduct daily inspections and preventative maintenance on drilling rigs, vehicles, machinery, tools, and support equipment.
  • Review project requirements with engineering and technical staff to ensure a clear understanding of project objectives, scope, equipment needs, and staffing requirements.
  • Safely transport drilling rigs, equipment, and materials to and from project sites using company vehicles and trailers.
  • Maintain accurate field records and documentation associated with drilling activities.
  • Serve as a professional representative of MSG when interacting with clients, contractors, project stakeholders, and the public.
  • Travel to project locations and work extended hours or overnight assignments as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of drilling experience in geotechnical, environmental, or related drilling operations.
  • Demonstrated experience performing auger, direct-push, rotary, and rock coring drilling operations; experience operating GeoProbe 7822DT equipment is preferred.
  • Experience installing monitoring wells, piezometers, and other environmental monitoring systems.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record.
  • 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification.
  • Basic computer and iPad proficiency for field documentation and communication.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work in varying weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle record review.
