Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Sr. Planner ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership:

  • Take personal responsibility for your own safety through hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Ensure practices/processes are safely executed. 
  • Communicate safety concerns and model safe behaviors.  

Project Execution:

  • Update and maintain ship, availability and alteration specific data in the Planning Yard Hull
  • Interface directly with various Planning Yard and Navy information systems to electronically
  • Provide Project Management (PM) products and services for various projects as assigned.
  • Develop weekly/monthly/quarterly metrics as needed.

Training & Development:

  • Participate in annual Port Engineer Training events at CROF.
  • Assist other PY functional groups with navigation, training or other HMS related ship, availability and alteration data related questions.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work directly with various Navy activities to support the maintenance of HMS data and development of availability analysis products.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with various internal and external

Continuous Improvement:

  • Utilize the A3 methodology and BIW's BOS to continually improve quality and results.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/technical discipline preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
  • 5 years of experience in Shipbuilding or related industry required. 
  • Detailed understanding of DDG 51 Planning Yard processes, procedures, and products.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, ability to develop relational databases to collate information used in maintenance of PY HMS data and development of analysis reports and planning products.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of HMS and the PY SSSC Web Site.
  • Experience with Navy Ship Overhauls or Post Shakedown Availabilities a plus.
