Job description

Job Title: Camera Operator - (Full Season)
Business Unit: Wheeling Nailers Hockey Team
Department: Production
Reports To: Manager of Game Operations & Activation
The Wheeling Nailers are expanding their game day broadcast and are looking to hire experienced broadcast camera operators for the 2026-2027 home season.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Camera Positions Available: Main Follow (traditional broadcast-style follow of the game for the television broadcast), Tight Follow (traditional broadcast-style tight follow of the game for the television broadcast), Wireless Roaming (responsible for majority of Fan Cam shots, as well as following the Emcee for necessary segments), Reverse Angle (Responsible for following the game, in arena promotions, and identifying key moments for replay use)
  • Read over and comprehend game scripts to discern when shots are needed during a game and when specific events are occurring.
  • Ensure and execute proper camera techniques, such as proper composition and framing, camera settings, and camera set-up. Ability to react instinctively as the game takes place.
  • Set-Up and tear-down equipment before and after games and events as needed.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
  • Basic understanding of professional ice hockey, and willingness to continue to learn.
  • Expected to have a firm technical understanding of production fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of camera equipment, including camera operation such as white balance, shutter speed, aperture, gain, audio levels, focus, and more.
  • Minimum 1 or more years videography/production experience or in a related media field.
  • Strong computer and technical skills, solving problems independently, previous work in television/livestreaming broadcasts, previous work in/around sports
  • Must work playoffs April-June unless excused by supervisor
