Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities are crucial for leading teams and collaborating on complex projects. These skills and qualifications ensure accurate experimental results, innovation in research, and successful leadership in a scientific environment.

Are biochemists in high demand?

Biochemists are in steady demand due to their role in research, healthcare, and biotechnology industries. Employment opportunities are expected to grow as scientific advancements and healthcare needs increase, with a focus on skills in laboratory techniques and data analysis.

What is the difference between Senior Biochemist vs Biochemist?

AspectSenior BiochemistBiochemist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's degree; often PhD; extensive experienceBachelor's or Master's degree; entry-level or early career
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, pharmaceutical companies, biotech firmsResearch labs, academic institutions, healthcare settings
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in advanced research, product development, leadership rolesUsed in basic research, data collection, laboratory analysis

The main difference between a Senior Biochemist and a Biochemist lies in experience, responsibilities, and seniority. Senior Biochemists typically have more years of experience, hold advanced degrees, and take on leadership or project management roles. Biochemists are often in entry-level or mid-level positions focused on conducting experiments and data analysis. Both roles are essential in research environments, but Senior Biochemists usually oversee projects and mentor junior staff.

What is the highest paid job in biochemistry?

The highest paid roles in biochemistry are often senior-level positions such as Biotech Executive, Director of Research, or Chief Scientific Officer, which can earn six-figure salaries. These roles typically require extensive experience, advanced degrees, and leadership skills in research, development, or management within pharmaceutical or biotech companies.

What is the highest salary for a biochemist?

Senior biochemists can earn salaries up to $130,000 or higher annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced degrees, and work in high-paying industries like pharmaceuticals or biotechnology. Top earners often hold leadership roles or specialized expertise in research and development.

What opportunities for cross-functional collaboration can a Senior Biochemist expect within a typical organization?

As a Senior Biochemist, you can expect to work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including molecular biologists, analytical chemists, clinical researchers, and regulatory specialists. Collaboration often involves designing experiments, troubleshooting technical challenges, and interpreting data to advance research projects or product development. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as your insights frequently contribute to project direction and decision-making. This collaborative environment not only enhances project outcomes but also provides valuable exposure to different scientific perspectives and potential pathways for career advancement.

What are Senior Biochemists?

Senior Biochemists are experienced scientists who study the chemical processes and substances that occur within living organisms. They often lead research projects, design experiments, and analyze data to advance knowledge in fields like medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology. In addition, they may supervise junior scientists, collaborate with other researchers, and publish their findings in scientific journals. Senior Biochemists typically hold advanced degrees and have several years of experience in laboratory and research settings.

What biology jobs pay over $100k?

Senior biochemists and related advanced biology roles often have salaries exceeding $100,000 annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced degrees, and specialized skills in areas like molecular biology or pharmacology. Positions in biotech, pharmaceuticals, and research institutions tend to offer higher compensation, particularly for those with leadership responsibilities or in managerial roles.

Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Senior Associate Scientist to support our protein science team in developing molecular glue therapies. This role focuses on the execution of biochemical experiments and protein production to enable targeted protein degradation programs. Working under the guidance of senior scientists, you will contribute to the discovery and preclinical development of transformative medicines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What You'll Do

  • Execute purification protocols for recombinant E3 ligases and other disease-relevant proteins using AKTA FPLC systems.
  • Perform and troubleshoot established biochemical and cell-based assays (HTRF, AlphaScreen, etc.) to support lead discovery and SAR studies.
  • Process and organize experimental data for review by project teams, ensuring high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate daily with biologists and chemists to provide the high-quality protein reagents needed to meet project milestones.
  • Maintain meticulous notebooks and contribute to general lab organization and reagent inventory.
  • Support the implementation of new biochemical techniques and laboratory automation workflows.

What We're Looking For

  • B.S. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with a minimum of 9+ years of relevant industry experience for candidates with a B.S., or 6+ years for candidates with an M.S.
  • Hands-on proficiency in protein expression (bacterial, insect, or mammalian systems) and multi-step protein purification.
  • Direct experience operating AKTA FPLC systems and performing protein characterization (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, SEC).
  • Experience performing plate-based high-throughput biochemical assays (e.g., DSF, luminescence, or FRET-based) and basic cell culture maintenance.
  • Experience with HTS-enabling technologies (eg. liquid handlers, compound dispensers)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and experimental timelines simultaneously.
  • A collaborative team player who is eager to learn new technologies in the targeted protein degradation (TPD) space.
  • Effective communication skills and a rigorous approach to data integrity.
