About the Role

Stafford Gray is seeking a senior-level Data Warehouse ETL/BI Developer to join an established data warehouse team supporting a large state government health and human services program. This is a hands-on role for someone who can develop, maintain, and enhance automated data warehouse applications on an enterprise Teradata platform, while coordinating with other data warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects and helping shape data warehouse policies and practices going forward.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance data warehouse ETL processes, data marts, reporting, and dashboards
  • Coordinate team activities and represent the team on complex, multi-team data warehouse projects
  • Review existing data warehouse policies and practices, and propose modifications or new practices as needed
  • Meet with business users for clarification and elaboration to define problems and conceptualize development plans
  • Recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts; draw conclusions; define problems; devise solutions and recommendations
  • Work with data modelers and developers to translate logical designs into physical designs suited to reporting needs
  • Design applications considering data reconciliation to source systems, query/reporting performance, and analytical business value
  • Present gathered information to project review boards, project sponsors, and technical review boards as needed
  • Consult with client agency stakeholders to explain complex IT processes and solutions; maintain effective communication on project-level metrics and reporting
  • Assist architects/DBAs in drafting technical database models that comply with audit separation-of-duty requirements, capture data element requirements, and best meet application needs
  • Review and approve updates to systems documentation
  • Gather, review, and analyze potential impacts of proposed changes (legislative, enhancement requests, process changes) and communicate risk to management and client agency
  • Provide technical expertise in IT project estimating and budgeting
  • Serve as a team lead and resource, directing code development and providing guidance to other development staff
  • Evaluate and identify opportunities for programming process or tools standardization
  • Perform disaster recovery planning and implementation
  • Provide input to change management procedures for production system fixes
  • Review and approve test plans, incorporating required security levels into testing

Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical study
  • 6+ years creating Data Warehouse BI applications, including ETL/data mart development, reporting, dashboards, and other information analysis and delivery systems
  • 2+ years of experience in Child Welfare Services, Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Services, or other related human services experience
  • Must live within 90 miles of Lansing, MI (48933) at time of submission
Preferred Qualifications
  • SQL Assistant / Teradata Studio experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Experience with State government Agile/PMM-style project methodology
  • End-user training experience
  • Experience working with data modelers and developers on logical-to-physical design translation
