What is a Senior BI Developer?

Senior BI (Business Intelligence) Developers are experienced IT professionals who design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions such as data warehouses, dashboards, and reports. They work closely with stakeholders to analyze data requirements, transform raw data into meaningful insights, and help organizations make data-driven decisions. Their role often includes using BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, or SQL, optimizing data models, and mentoring junior developers on best practices.

How does a Senior BI Developer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business intelligence solutions?

A Senior BI Developer works closely with stakeholders such as data analysts, business managers, and IT teams to understand business requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and develop scalable BI solutions. They often facilitate requirements-gathering sessions, create data models, and design dashboards or reports that meet user needs. Effective collaboration and communication are essential, as the role involves aligning technical processes with business goals and ensuring data accuracy and usability across departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior BI Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior BI Developer, you need strong expertise in data modeling, SQL, ETL processes, and analytics, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Job description

Job Title: Sr Business Analyst

Location: Hybrid - Irving

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: Director, Data & AI

Job Overview

Data is only powerful when it’s turned into action—and that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join our Data & AI team and play a pivotal role in shaping how ideas become impactful, data-driven solutions. You’ll sit at the intersection of business strategy, analytics, and technology—partnering with stakeholders to turn curiosity, questions, and challenges into clearly defined initiatives that fuel insight, automation, and smarter decision-making.

This role goes beyond traditional requirements gathering. You’ll be the front door to the Data & AI pipeline, helping define what we work on, why it matters, and how we deliver value—fast, iteratively, and with intention.

Key Responsibilities

Be the Catalyst for Data & AI Work

You’ll lead discovery conversations that uncover the real business problems behind requests—clarifying goals, defining outcomes, and ensuring ideas are fully formed before they enter delivery. Nothing vague. Nothing half-baked.

Turn Big Ideas into Clear Direction

You’ll translate high-level asks into well-structured user stories, functional and technical requirements, and acceptance criteria—giving delivery teams exactly what they need to build with confidence.

Bridge Strategy and Execution

You’ll act as a connective thread between business leaders, product owners, data engineers, and BI developers—ensuring shared understanding of scope, priorities, and progress at every stage.

Own the Flow from Intake to Impact

From initial request through sprint delivery, you’ll help guide work forward—tracking progress, removing ambiguity, and keeping stakeholders informed and engaged along the way.

Elevate How Work Gets Done

You’ll bring structure and consistency to how initiatives are captured, prioritized, and managed—using tools like Microsoft Loop, Jira, and SharePoint to ensure transparency and follow-through.

Champion Agile, Iterative Value

You’ll help teams and stakeholders think in terms of MVPs, experimentation, and continuous improvement—ensuring value is delivered early and refined often.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field

· Minimum of 3 years in a business analyst, technical analyst, or project management role

· Experience supporting cross-functional teams and managing the lifecycle of business or data projects

· Exposure to reporting and analytics environments; experience working with data teams or BI developers preferred

· Certifications in Business Analysis or PM (e.g., PMP, CBAP, PMI-PBA) or Agile (e.g., Scrum Master) are a plus

Technical Skills

· Familiarity with Power BI—capable of understanding report structures, data flows, and data model concepts

· Experience with work tracking systems such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools

· Understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC) and basic data concepts such as KPIs, data sources, and data validation

Leadership and Communication

· Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between business needs and technical requirements

· Comfortable leading meetings, facilitating discussions, and presenting information to diverse stakeholders

· Demonstrated ability to foster trust, manage expectations, and build consensus

· Experience influencing stakeholders and promoting process consistency across teams

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills

· Exceptional attention to detail and ability to connect small details to big-picture goals

· Adept at identifying ambiguities or gaps in requests and asking the right follow-up questions

· Analytical mindset with the ability to break down complex business problems into clearly defined requirements
