Sr. Electrical Project Engineer
Work Mode: Onsite
Location:Onsite, four days per week - Kohler, WI
Opportunity
Responsible for the design, implementation, and standardization of custom designed equipment & automation for Kohler plants & processes. The individual will have great awareness to include safety, defect detection, process stoppage, signaling of corrective actions, and data collection.
The candidate ensures that there is consistency in the way all automation is designed, process engineered, and documented to ensure a successful handover and cross training to maintenance & engineering associates. This position will act as a lead in the design, layout, function, specifications, and electrical engineering of automated equipment and plant processes.
In this role, the candidate will be technically capable to drive standards and set guidelines for electrical control & safety design, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, and design software. This includes providing leadership, analysis, design of the technical architecture, and facilitation of external equipment suppliers to produce equipment that will be integrated with the Kohler provided solutions.
This lead position will maintain awareness of emerging technologies and usage in the industry to build future competitive advantage for Kohler's manufacturing processes. The individual will partner with the plant's engineering manager and teams along with close relationships in Advance Materials & Process Development (AMPD) and New Product Integration (NPI) to build industrialization methods globally to achieve safety quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) targets.
Specific Responsibilities
As the Sr Project Electrical Engineer - Automation, provide the technical leadership and coordination in the following:
  • Support the global strategy for automated solutions that provides the best balance of safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Implement the strategy of achieving standardized automation processes and ensure availability of process information.
  • Participate in design engineering reviews with plant teams to ensure the solutions will meet the requirements proposed in the ACT.
  • Ensure equipment and process readiness prior to kick off of projects.
  • Ensure automation processes are capable, ready, and proven prior to new product launches.
  • Provide capacity planning, capital equipment recommendations and implementation partnership with the plant operations engineering teams.
  • Develop business cases with supporting financial justification that illustrate the proof of value of the investment.
  • Remain up-to-date on all methods of automation and related tools while recommending new approaches and tools.
  • Deploy leading technological advancements to achieve SQDC improvements for both internal and supplier processes as they relate to automation.
  • Intermediate understanding of electrical engineering for equipment, automation, and robotics including electrical controls design and PLC programming.
  • Intermediate understanding of Fanuc robotics (wiring methods, software configuration, features & options).
  • Intermediate understanding of automation products including servo controls, HMIs, and vision systems
  • Functional safety engineering (SAF TUV) control reviews to ensure supplier design commitments meet specification with mastery of regulatory safety standards.
  • Mastery of AutoCad Electrical.
  • Collaboration with automation engineering staff and equipment suppliers to provide process control requirements and offer design critiques and mitigation when required.
  • Ability to create and/or understand value stream maps, time studies, and production schedules. Other Skillsets (not required, highly desirable)
  • Ignition development knowledge
  • PLC programming (Rockwell Automation & Siemens preferred)
  • Mechanical design with knowledge of GD&T including the use of AutoCAD and Creo (3D modeling)
  • Intermediate hydraulic, pneumatic, & machining knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of ASRS systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of AGV systems.

Skills/Requirements
  • Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar required. 30% travel required.
  • Majority of travel will be focused on US, Canada, and Mexico. 3+ years experience related to mechanical design of automation required.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming (Rockwell Automation and/or Siemens) and Fanuc Roboguide required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Copilot. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to function within a project team environment.

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation.
