Engineer II, Thermal Systems
Location: Riverside, CA
Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000
Position Summary
Responsible for assisting with the design, development, implementation, and analysis of various mechanical amp; cooling systems relating to heavy duty vehicles, specifically transit buses (i.e. HVAC, Fire Suppression, Cooling). Performs multiple engineering design tasks with standard techniques. Supports senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, and drawings. Works on projects/matters of moderate complexity in a support role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports the design, development, execution, implementation, and routings of components and systems related to HVAC, Fire Suppression, Radiators, and various other thermal systems components for heavy duty vehicles (i.e. transit buses).
  • Uses CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to aid in the development of the design of thermal systems components, to model 3D designs, and to produce detailed 2D engineering drawings.
  • Responsible for fulfilling customer requirements (i.e., work orders) considering design specifications and applications.
  • Execute engineering changes through established ECN (engineering change notice) processes and documentation.
  • Supports the creation and review of material part specifications and BOM’s (bills of materials).
  • Responsible for delivering complete engineering packages emphasizing efficiency in the manufacturing process.
  • Gain understanding of manufacturing processes with emphasis on thermal systems and assemblies.
  • Owns moderate scale systems amp; routing design projects and reviews.
  • Verify designs through use of calculations and other analytical techniques and tools.
  • Supports the definition of test requirements and interpret test results to validate designs.
  • Gain familiarity of standards adhered to in the transit industry and applicable to bus cooling, HVAC, amp; Fire Suppression systems (i.e. FMVSS amp; APTA White Book).
  • Identify problems, root causes and be able to define amp; execute resolutions.
  • Understand and use lean principles as they apply to manufacturing and business processes.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree of Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education required.
  • 2 - 4 years of related experience.
  • CAD software experience (i.e. Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of GD amp;T and various manufacturing processes.
  • Interest in researching and developing cooling systems and routing solutions for heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Skilled in computer simulation, cost estimation, design optimization, design review, engineering analysis amp; design, feasibility study, mathematical analysis amp; modeling, prototyping, quality assurance process and reliability analysis.
  • Solid PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and layouts.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing industry and vocational standards a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work directly with hourly production employees and leadership concerning manufacturing initiatives and progress updates.
