Job description

Join us in our mission to develop next-generation energy infrastructure to power our future. We are committed to maintaining an inclusive and diverse environment for all of our employees. By joining Grid United you will be part of a dynamic, growing company that is founded on mutual respect, collaborative relationships, and teamwork.

Senior Associate / Associate, Commercial AnalyticsThe Organization

Grid United is a mission driven company aiming to solve the largest barrier to a more reliable, resilient and affordable grid by developing new long haul electric transmission lines in the United States. Established in 2021 by proven industry leaders, Grid United is developing utility-scale electric multi-state transmission projects that will provide long-term economic benefits to communities across the country, provide Americans with improved grid resiliency for our homes and businesses, and cost savings for electricity consumers.

Grid United has numerous large scale transmissions projects underway and is currently identifying and studying additional prospective projects across North America. With patient capital backing led by experienced energy veterans, Grid United is in a fast-growth stage, boasting a purpose-built team of motivated and entrepreneurial talent. We are particularly focused on effective stakeholder engagement and positive involvement with the communities in the areas where we are working.

This growing team is seeking to add a Senior Associate or Associate, Commercial Analytics, to perform the quantitative analyses that underpin the value of Grid Unitedโ€™s interregional transmission projects. This role sits at the center of how Grid United demonstrates the reliability, resource adequacy, and economic value of its projects to markets, customers, and regulators.

This role will report to the Manager of Commercial Analytics and will be located in Grid Unitedโ€™s Houston office. Title and level (Senior Associate or Associate) will be determined by the depth of the candidateโ€™s experience and their demonstrated independence in model development and stakeholder-facing work.

Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
  • Build, run, and maintain probabilistic resource adequacy models (e.g., SERVM) to quantify the reliability and capacity value of Grid Unitedโ€™s projects, including loss of load, ELCC, and resource accreditation analyses across RTO and utility frameworks.
  • Perform and interpret production cost, congestion, and capacity expansion modeling, both in-house and through review of consultant-driven studies, to support project valuation and commercialization.
  • Assemble, validate, and document model inputs (load, generation, transmission topology, weather) with rigorous quality control so that every result is reproducible and defensible.
  • Develop commercial and revenue analytics spanning capacity value, energy arbitrage, and congestion relief across markets such as MISO, SPP, WECC, and ERCOT.
  • Support regulatory strategy and RTO/ISO stakeholder processes with quantitative analysis, white papers, and technical comments.
  • Work cross-functionally with Grid Unitedโ€™s commercial, regulatory, and finance teams to ensure analytical products directly support commercialization, regulatory strategy, and project financing needs.
  • Automate data pipelines and analytical workflows in Python and SQL, and build clear reporting for internal and external audiences.
Outcomes
  • Decision-ready, defensible analyses that directly support project commercialization, financing, and regulatory filings.
  • Expanded in-house modeling capability that deepens Grid Unitedโ€™s ability to innovate on study methodologies and reduces reliance on external consultants.
  • Complex modeling results translated into clear, credible narratives for leadership, customers, and regulators.
Behaviors โ€“ which are essential to success of this team
  • Be exemplars of the Grid United values of humility, tenacity, ingenuity and grace
  • Build, maintain and value broad and deep stakeholder relationships and have a personal commitment to making a difference in the community
  • Proactively work with stakeholders to solve problems in a calm and no blame way
  • Bring intellectual honesty and rigor to every analysis, presenting results, assumptions, and uncertainties transparently and without spin
Desired Experience and Skills
  • 3-5 years of experience in energy analytics, resource adequacy, wholesale power markets, transmission planning, or a similar quantitative role at a utility, RTO/ISO, consultancy, developer, or trading organization.
  • Hands-on experience with probabilistic resource adequacy modeling; direct experience with SERVM is strongly preferred, and comparable loss of load or ELCC modeling frameworks are welcome.
  • Experience with one or more production cost or capacity expansion platforms (e.g., AURORA, PROMOD, PSO, PLEXOS, EnCompass, GridView) or a demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data assembly, automation, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including rigor in input assembly, quality assurance of model outputs, and clear, defensible documentation.
  • A strong sense of ownership and the initiative to work through problems independently before escalating. Candidates at the senior end of this role will be adept at resolving complex issues on their own and at anticipating and raising questions and risks before they arise.
  • Working knowledge of RTO/ISO market constructs, including capacity markets, resource accreditation, and interregional transfer frameworks, in one or more of MISO, SPP, WECC, ERCOT, PJM, or the Northeast markets.
  • Strong writing skills, including both technical and persuasive writing, and the ability to read and digest large amounts of information rapidly.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and uncertainty, and project changes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small, nonhierarchical organization.
  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or another quantitative field is typical, but strong equivalent experience is equally valued. Advanced degrees are helpful but not required.
  • Proactive and open to embracing new challenges, with a positive, professional, and energetic team-oriented attitude.
  • Embodies Grid Unitedโ€™s core values of ingenuity, tenacity, humility, and grace.
What the Right Candidate Will Love about this Opportunity
  • An organization dedicated to solving the ever changing Rubikโ€™s cube of high voltage transmission development in a fast paced, dynamic and innovative culture
  • Working with a core group of dedicated and thoughtful colleagues.
  • Working on a day-to-day basis with highly experienced and proven industry leaders
  • Being empowered to play a leading role in delivering a large scale project that will materially change the energy future of America
  • Working in an organization committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and having a positive social impact
  • Excellent financial backing from leading energy investor with long term commitment, passion for energy, and an understanding and appetite to tackle the challenges of transmission development

Grid United is an equal opportunity employer, committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity or expression, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, military/veteran status, or any basis prohibited by applicable law.
