Senior Architect Developer information

What is a senior architect developer?

A Senior Architect Developer is a highly experienced software professional who designs, oversees, and implements complex software systems. They combine deep technical expertise with leadership skills to define system architecture, set coding standards, and guide development teams. Senior Architect Developers collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that technical solutions align with business goals and are scalable, secure, and maintainable. They often mentor junior developers and are responsible for making high-level design decisions throughout the software development lifecycle.

How does a senior architect developer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during project development?

A Senior Architect Developer often serves as a bridge between technical teams, product managers, and stakeholders. They lead architectural design discussions, ensure that solutions align with business goals, and provide technical guidance to developers. Collaboration commonly involves regular meetings, code reviews, and documentation to ensure all teams are aligned on project requirements and timelines. Effective communication and leadership skills are essential for resolving conflicts and integrating feedback from various departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior architect developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Architect Developer, you need advanced programming skills, deep understanding of software architecture principles, and significant experience with system design, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms, enterprise frameworks, and certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or TOGAF are highly valuable. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication help drive collaboration and guide development teams through complex projects. These skills and qualities are crucial for designing scalable, robust systems and ensuring project success in dynamic technical environments.

What is the difference between Senior Architect Developer vs Software Engineer?

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Architect to join our Semiconductor Sector in Chandler, Arizona. In this role, you will report to the Architectural Department Manager and lead key technical design and coordination efforts for complex industrial projects. You will be responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet client needs, while ensuring quality, code compliance, and integration across disciplines.

As a senior technical leader, you will provide architectural expertise in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex projects, independently applying advanced architectural principles and judgment throughout all phases of design and documentation. This role also includes providing technical leadership, oversight, and mentorship to junior architects and designers.

Experience with A/E or EPCM consulting firms supporting projects in cleanrooms, laboratories, semiconductor fabs, data centers, solar manufacturing, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical facilities is highly desirable.

Role accountabilities:

  • Lead and apply advanced architectural design principles and practice-based graphical standards to contract documents.
  • Provide senior-level expertise in design layout, building code analysis, material selection, specifications, detailing, and technical report writing.
  • Evaluate and apply the technical performance of building materials and systems appropriate for complex industrial and high-tech facilities.
  • Lead the development of design presentations, drawing packages, and construction documentation.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with zoning regulations, building codes, and applicable industry standards, coordinating requirements across project documentation.
  • Manage and prioritize architectural scope across multiple concurrent projects, while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate closely with project engineers, internal design teams, and external stakeholders to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Lead the coordination of architectural systems with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process engineering teams.
  • Provide technical direction, quality review, and mentorship to Architect/Designers I and II and other developing staff.
  • Support project leadership in resolving design and technical issues during planning, design, and construction phases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Licensed Architect required.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in architecture, with demonstrated experience in a similar senior-level role.
  • Proven experience with A/E or EPCM firms, preferably supporting industrial, semiconductor, cleanroom, laboratory, or other advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction documentation, code compliance, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with excellent attention to detail and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts, mentor junior staff, and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to take ownership of assignments and work effectively both independently and in a team environment, while supporting multiple projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, Photoshop, Bluebeam, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of international building codes; experience with industrial facilities projects strongly preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, technically complex environment.
  • Ability to provide legal US work authorization documents required. Will consider US domestic travelers and relocation.
