Purpose:
The Applied Sports Science Intern will play a vital role in an information system supporting evidence-based decisions regarding the performance and health of student-athletes. We are committed to the application of the latest in human performance research for the enhancement of student-athlete health and development. This internship will support our mission of providing coaches and trainers with unique, accurate and actionable feedback in a timely manner. As an intern, you will be actively involved in supporting student-athlete growth and development using performance assessments, athlete monitoring and education. You will collaborate closely with the sports science staff, developing insights, facilitating rehabilitation progression and return-to-play strategies. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in a high-performance setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist and potentially lead data collection, analysis, and communication within a comprehensive athlete monitoring system under structured oversight.
  • Technologies used include but are not limited to Smartabase, Catapult, VALD, Elite Form, Body Weights, and Subjective Questionnaires.
  • Collaborate with athletic medicine, sport performance, nutrition, behavior health, and coaching staff to optimize athlete health, wellness, and performance.
  • Contribute insights within the Applied Sports Science Department.
  • Opportunity to contribute to performance science including: data collection, data security, analysis, and results presentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. Required Qualifications:
  • Working towards a degree in kinesiology, sports science, sports analytics, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with database management, analysis, and visualization (knowledge of Excel).
  • Demonstrated experience with independent sports science projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate sports science data and information to strength & conditioning, sports medicine, coaching staff, and athletes
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
