position summaryThe Applications Engineer is responsible for leading all technical and commercial application engineering activities required to develop compliant, competitive, and technically sound proposals for natural gas compressor packages and related equipment supporting gas applications. This role requires a senior-level engineer capable of operating with little to no oversight, exercising independent technical judgment, and managing complex customer specifications from concept through proposal submission. The Applications Engineer will serve as a technical authority within the organization, interfacing directly with customers, vendors, outside sales, engineering, production, and supply chain. The position requires deep experience in gas compression systems and the ability to mentor and train junior engineers efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead technical evaluation of customer requests for proposals and specifications for gas compression systems.
  • Independently interpret complex specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Perform advanced sizing of compressors, engines, vessels, and auxiliary systems.
  • Develop complete technical and commercial proposals, that include project scope, technical compliance, and pricing.
  • Build accurate cost models using vendor data and engineering judgment.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and technically qualify vendor proposals.
  • Identify and mitigate technical as well as commercial risks.
  • Lead technical discussions in pre-sales and kickoff meetings.
  • Provide cross-functional technical support through design and fabrication.
  • Act as primary technical resource for sales teams and customers.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and inside sales personnel.
  • Support aftermarket and field technical evaluations as needed.
  • Represent the company at customer reviews and industry events.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline required.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct gas applications experience required; 10+ years preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in compressor packaging, highly technical specifications, and strong customer relationships.
TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards.
  • Advanced understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience with compressor performance modeling and driver/compressor matching.
  • Familiarity with fabrication practices, welding standards, and custom manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to understand and interpret highly technical specifications and commercial terms.
  • Capable of balancing technical requirements with commercial objectives.
  • Strong decision-making ability under schedule pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-value proposals simultaneously.
