Job description

Impact
As a Staff Mobile Engineer, you will be responsible for building product features for our Member App across our mobile stack, shipping mobile capabilities that are reliable, measurable, and valuable to the business. You will lead projects and mentor engineers in the best practices of software development, leveraging AI tools in your daily workflow while maintaining strong engineering quality to build world-class, customer-facing mobile experiences.
What You'll Need to Be Successful
  • You have 7+ years of experience with React Native, including a strong understanding of the React component lifecycle and performance optimization.
  • You have strong experience in testing fundamentals (unit, integration, and e2e).
  • You have strong experience with Real User Monitoring (RUM) and asset health and observability tooling, such as Datadog or similar.
  • You have strong experience working with CI/CD tools like Circle CI, Drone, or similar.
  • You have experience in Native mobile iOS or Android engineering.
  • You have experience actively using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate boilerplate code generation, unit testing, and documentation.
  • You have experience with accessibility best practices for mobile.

Nice-to-Haves (The Differentiators):
  • E2E: Experience with the Detox end to end testing suite
  • Server side JavaScript: Experience building APIs in JavaScript using Node JS or similar.
  • GraphQL: Experience working with GraphQL and the Apollo Client

Key Responsibilities
Mobile Product Development
  • Engineering Best Practices: Able to transform hi-fidelity designs and product requirements into accurate, working features. Able to communicate complex ideas and concepts concisely to team members with technical and non-technical backgrounds.
  • Build & Integrate: Design and implement features that utilize your strong React Native experience alongside Native iOS or Android engineering to solve user problems and deliver rich, engaging user experiences.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Backend Engineers, Product Managers, and User Experience Designers and Data Scientists to build systems with user experience forethought that efficiently power features.
  • Architecture & Quality: Architect reliable, performant, and scalable React Native solutions and build efficient, reusable components. Set the tone for engineering best practices and culture within the team, leading by example.
  • Roadmap Ownership: Own the technical roadmaps and take responsibility for the architecture and technical quality of the features your team develops. Regularly work across teams to discuss interoperability and solution design, influencing technical direction while actively driving consensus building.

Multi-Team Initiatives & Production Excellence
  • Technical Direction: Set the technical direction for products, associating this to the strategy of Shipt and the value it will deliver.
  • Observability & Troubleshooting: Take strong ownership of incidents and recovery for production issues across all areas within your team, troubleshooting deeply to root cause. Drive observability patterns, best practices, and culture within the team.
  • Security & Process: Adopt a security first mindset when architecting new features, using that same mindset to scrutinize existing features. Create new processes and procedures to address systemic issues within the team.
  • Mentorship & Culture: Cultivate the senior engineers of the future and serve as a mentor to all engineers. Actively invite all voices from the team to contribute to conversations, design sessions, and post-mortems, while modeling the blameless culture of our organization and championing inclusivity across the enterprise.

AI-Assisted Engineering & Mentorship
  • Tool Utilization: Utilize familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows to accelerate code generation, testing, and documentation, ensuring a focus on high quality.

Pay Range: $130,00 - $175,000
