Job description

Job Title: Quality Control Inspector
Job Location: Fontana, California , 92337
Job Duration: 18 Months
Shift/Schedule: Monday - Friday (20-30 hrs./wk.)
 
Job Summary:
  • Perform a visual inspection of incoming shipments of distribution transformer units from Howard Industries. These shipments are coming from their Laurel, Mississippi facility and will be arriving at Southwire's warehouse in Fontana, California. The inventory is designated as vendor managed inventory (VMI) and is owned and managed by Howard Industries at the Southwire Fontana facility.
  • We are receiving five types of distribution transformers: Overhead (Pole Top), Single Phase Padmount, 3-Phase Padmount (500kVA and smaller), 3-Phase Power Padmount (750kVA or larger), and Buried Underground Residential Distribution (BURD) / Subway (submersible). The expectation for the inspector is to perform a thorough visual inspection of these transformer units and meticulously record any cosmetic issues in a tracking log.
Job Description and Qualifications:
  • Broad knowledge of inspection, testing, and non-destructive examination techniques and practices, use of specialized equipment, and all applicable codes, standards, and regulations in at least one discipline.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or civil construction industry practices, safety, and operations and maintenance of industrial facilities and buildings. Typically possesses two or more years experience in a craft job at an electrical power plant.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one primary discipline or method.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine Quality Control Inspections of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, finished goods, or stability samples
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release. 
  • Perform visual inspections of finished products
  • Compile laboratory test data and perform appropriate analyses.
  • Complete Quality Control Inspector documentation needed to support testing procedures including data capture forms, equipment logbooks, or inventory forms.
  • Calibrate, validate, or maintain laboratory equipment
  • Participate in out-of-specification and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Supply Quality Control Inspector data necessary for regulatory submissions.
  • Receive and inspect raw materials.
  • Investigate or report questionable test results. Requirements
  • Proven experience using Quality Control Inspector tools including, gages, micrometers, torque testers, hand tools etc.
  • Minimum high school diploma
  • Experience using basic computer programs as a Quality Control Inspector
  • 2+ years working as a Quality Control Inspector
Inspection Process:
To assist you with the inspection process, a detailed job aid will be provided for each design, outlining the specific criteria to evaluate.
Common cosmetic findings that you may come across during the visual inspection include:
  1. Air Compartment Integrity
  2. Damaged Subcomponent
  3. Damaged Tank (Scratch/Scrape, Dent, Missing Paint)
  4. Door Latching Issue
  5. Incorrect Nameplate/Stickers
  6. Incorrectly Labeled Component (i.e., Coil/Loop Switch)
  7. Internal Fault Detector (OH Only)
  8. Missing Subcomponents
  9. Oil Leak (Component/Gasket)
  10. Oil Leak (Weld)
  11. Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) issues including damage
  12. Is the warranty period on the Warranty sticker accurate from date distribution transformer unit was manufactured? The warranty period is 18 months on overhead, single-phase pads, BURDs and smaller 3-phase padmount transformers (500kVA and smaller). The larger 3-phase padmounted transformers (750kVA or larger) are a 3-year warranty period.
