JOB OVERVIEW:

Certerra-Southern Engineering is hiring a Special Inspector to oversee the performance of inspections and testing of various construction materials and/or systems on active construction sites to verify compliance with project documents.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Technician Level I Certification
  • Practical knowledge of the International Code Council (ICC) Reinforced Concrete Certification
  • Combination of certifications in ICCโ€™s and/or AWS-CWI and/or ASNT (UT-MT-PT)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration. (OSHA), 10-Hour Certification.
  • A current and valid driver's license that will allow insurance through the company insurance provider.

Preferred Qualifications: (Any of the below)

  • ICC Reinforced Concrete
  • ICC Structural Masonry
  • ICC Structural Welding
  • ICC Structural Steel & Bolting
  • ICC SFRM
  • Post Tension Institute (PTI) Level II or higher certification
  • Pertinent National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologies (NICET) certifications
  • Engineering Intern (EI) Certification

Essential Skills:

  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibit excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and/or within Team environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Reinforced Concrete/Grout/Mortar inspection and testing

      โ€ข Reinforcement inspection for compliance with project documents
      โ€ข Testing for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature
      โ€ข Molding of compressive strength specimens - Core drilling

    • Spray-Applied Fire Resistive Material (SFRM) inspection and testing
      โ€ข Verifying suitable substrate
      โ€ข Testing for applied thickness, material density, and bond

    • Special Foundations
      โ€ข Monitoring installation of deep foundations (e.g. piles, caissons, etc.).
      โ€ข Monitoring ground improvement applications (e.g. aggregate piers, compaction grouting, etc.).
      โ€ข Observation and documentation of load testing.

    • Post-tension concrete inspection and testing
      โ€ข Check for proper tendon layout
      โ€ข Verify lift-off pressures and record elongations.
      โ€ข Monitoring for proper concrete placement techniques

    • Bolting & Structural Steel inspection and testing
      โ€ข Inspection of bolted connections and steel framing joint details
      โ€ข Steel and material size and type verification

    • Soil/Aggregate inspection and testing
      โ€ข Testing density/compaction
      โ€ข Observing proofrolling
      โ€ข Verifying proper moisture content
      โ€ข Checking bearing capacity for foundation support
      โ€ข Excavation quantification

Education/Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Bachelor's Degree Preferred
