About Child Evangelism Fellowship of Virginia (CEF of VA)

Child Evangelism Fellowship of Virginia is a statewide Christian nonprofit ministry committed to reaching children with the Gospel through Good News Clubs (GNC), 5‑Day Clubs, Christian Youth in Action® (CYIA), and church‑partnered evangelistic programs. We equip volunteers and churches to disciple children with excellence, accountability, and ministry integrity. Our team operates with a commitment to prayer, Scripture, and compliance with CEF’s national standards as we work to advance the Gospel to the next generation.
Position Title: Local Coordinator / Local Director (Peninsula Chapter) 
Full‑time, Ministry Leadership Role

Position Summary

The Local Director (beginning as Local Coordinator during training) serves as the face of the local chapter and is responsible for developing volunteers, building church partnerships, and leading all ministry operations within the chapter. This role requires a spiritually mature Christian leader with strong relational skills, a passion for evangelizing children, and the ability to mobilize churches and volunteers for ministry.
Key Responsibilities
  • Fulfilling the purpose of Child Evangelism Fellowship in the chapter.
  • Executing and accomplishing the plans and objectives of CEF USA Ministries, the local committee and state board.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the ministry within the local chapter with the assistance of the local committee, volunteers and staff. 
Ministry Leadership

  • Lead (implement, grow, improve) a chapter‑wide prayer strategy and model a ministry grounded in prayer.
  • Promote Good News Clubs, 5‑Day Clubs, and CYIA to expand ministry reach.
  • Recruit, train, equip, and supervise volunteers and staff.
  • Maintain direct ministry contact with children through CEF programs.
  • Build and sustain CYIA ministry, including staff and volunteer recruitment and training of short-term missionaries.
  • Coordinate Kick‑Off, Quick Start, Jump Start, and other training events for CYIA
  • Promote further opportunities to serve-including Short-Term Missions and other CEF ministries. 
  • Participate in CYIA Training School as assigned.
Strategic Leadership

  • Work with the local committee to develop vision and strategic plans for evangelizing and discipling children (within the chapter) with the goal of establishing them with local churches.
  • Recruit people to do the work of the ministry (both paid and volunteer); Mobilize churches as ministry partners and cultivate long‑term relationships.
  • Provide leadership development, training, coaching, and evaluation for staff and volunteers, regularly.
  • Support and encourage local committee participation in training opportunities.
  • Assist the local committee in fundraising efforts to sustain ministry operations.
  • Conduct routine employee appraisals for paid staff.
  • Oversee (and teach as needed) the teacher training program
Administrative Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all CEF policies, procedures, and governance standards.
  • Maintain adequate, accurate, and timely records, reports, minutes, communications, and donor receipts.
  • Develop and submit annual budgets in collaboration with the local committee to the State Director.
  • Communicate consistently and professionally with the State Director and committee.
  • Attend statewide Local Director meetings and trainings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Software & Technical Skills

  • Intermediate proficiency: MS PowerPoint, email communication.
  • Basic proficiency: MS Publisher, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to use projectors, Blockrockers, and technology used in Good News Clubs.
  • Ability to use MailChimp for newsletters.
Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated love for Jesus Christ and commitment to prayer
  • Unquestionable passion for reaching children with the Gospel.
  • Ability to recognize how God moves in our midst as He builds the local work (one person/church at a time)
  • Extensive experience in teaching and evangelizing children biblically.
  • Be a continual learner, love the local church, and understand how to mobilize ministry partners
  • Experience discipling, training, and supervising volunteers or staff
  • Strong relational, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to identify leaders, cast vision, organize groups, and evaluate ministry programs.
  • Flawless record of behavior toward children and families.
  • Understanding of how to mobilize churches as ministry partners.
  • At least one year of Bible College or Seminary training with solid academic performance.
  • Commitment to CEF’s Statement of Faith and Ministry Compliance Agreement.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit ministry leadership.
  • Experience building volunteer‑driven programs.
  • Experience working with committees or boards.
  • Familiarity with CEF programs and curriculum.
Work Environment & Expectations

  • Statewide and local travel required.
  • Evening and weekend ministry activities as needed.
  • Must complete CEF background check and child protection screening.
  • Must affirm CEF’s Statement of Faith and be willing to raise personal ministry support if required by chapter policy.
