Job description

The group you'll be a part of
In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
As a Process Engineer at Lam, you will operate on cutting-edge technology, harnessing atomic precision, material science, and surface engineering to push technical boundaries. Your role involves developing new and advanced process formulations, defining equipment hardware to meet processing requirements, evaluating test data, and coordinating design requirements to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Your expertise and knowledge play a crucial role in our customers' success, making an impact on the next generation of semiconductor breakthroughs.
What you'll do
This is a senior-level metrology engineering role focusing on thin film metrology (modeling and application support), with potential for expansion into other metrology technical areas. You will own applications and metrology solution development in thin film ellipsometry and work closely with equipment engineers and lab operational teams to support cutting-edge process research and development.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure high-quality, highly efficient day-to-day application support for thin film ellipsometry.
  • Work with the team to deliver metrology solutions for complex, high-level challenges.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert by contributing to the metrology roadmap for thin film ellipsometry.
  • Work closely with equipment engineering to manage vendor engagements, including leading vendor escalations when necessary to ensure tool productivity.
  • Think out of the box and connect with colleagues across broader teams to enable solutions for metrology challenges outside of ellipsometry.

Who we're looking for
  • PhD degree or equivalent background in Physics, Optics, Materials Science, or Chemistry.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in thin film ellipsometry and a solid background in thin film metrology techniques.
  • Demonstrated deep technical expertise in thin film ellipsometry, with a proven track record of high performance in prior roles.
  • Proven experience in vendor management, particularly in tool downtime situations and escalation management.
  • Strong program management skills, with demonstrated effectiveness in managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and organizational levels.

Preferred qualifications
  • Interest in advanced technology, with an ongoing desire to learn and explore new areas.
  • Interest in data analysis, data-driven logical thinking, systematic troubleshooting, and decision-making.
  • Programming/scripting experience is a plus.
  • Experience with statistics and statistical tools (JMP, Matlab, etc.) is a plus.
  • Background in optics and optical spectroscopy is a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of the physics behind metrology techniques.

Our commitment
We believe it is important for every person to feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential. By bringing unique individuals and viewpoints together, we achieve extraordinary results.
