The Director of Marketing & Business Development (EM) is a key leader responsible for driving Materion's strategic growth in the Semiconductor sector. This role shapes market strategy, expands our served available market (SAM), and accelerates new product and application development. The Director serves as Materion's external ambassador across the semiconductor ecosystem-engaging with customers, OEMs, industry bodies, and technology partners-while ensuring internal alignment across Commercial, Technology & Innovation (T&I), Product Management, Operations, and Executive Leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesMarket Strategy & Insights
  • Develop a deep understanding of semiconductor market dynamics, from endmarket trends to customerspecific needs.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, competitive activity, and industry developments, converting insights into actionable strategy.
  • Maintain clear, structured segment reporting, including TAM/SAM definitions and wallet share analysis.
  • Partner with Sales and Product Management to translate customer feedback into meaningful market intelligence.
  • Represent Materion at key industry events and associations (e.g., SEMI), strengthening brand visibility and thought leadership.
  • Collaborate with Communications to advance Materion's external presence, including press, digital content, and speaking engagements.
  • Provide regular executivelevel updates on market conditions, competitive environment, and strategic implications.
Business Development & Growth Execution
  • Identify, evaluate, and drive new strategic opportunities in electronic materials-including new materials, deposition technologies, and emerging semiconductor applications.
  • Serve as the primary interface with OEMs, research institutes, and technology partners to understand future needs and coinnovate solutions.
  • Lead earlystage development programs, including customer engagement, business case creation, and project oversight.
  • Build and nurture multilevel relationships across key customer organizations, ensuring coordinated engagement and longterm partnership strength.
  • Translate customer and OEM specifications into manufacturable products, partnering closely with T&I, Product Management, Operations, and Procurement.
  • Support early product qualification stages, guide technical discussions, and oversee applicationspecific testing.
  • Provide senior technical leadership for product performance requirements, customer inquiries, and material tailoring.
  • Drive internal alignment and crossfunctional execution to ensure timely readiness, launch, and scaleup of new products.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related fields).
  • 10+ years of experience in semiconductor materials, thinfilm deposition, advanced packaging, or adjacent semiconductor technology markets.
  • Proven ability to lead crossfunctional initiatives in strategy, business development, key account management, and new product introduction (NPI).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and executivelevel presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience building multilevel customer relationships and developing marketdriven technology roadmaps.
  • Must have US person status
