Wholesale & International Seed Sales Representative
Onsite - Fairfield ME
Position Summary:
The Wholesale & International Seed Sales Representative is responsible for driving sales growth of Johnny's proprietary and produced seed varieties through domestic and international wholesale channels. Success in this role requires identifying opportunities within customers' product portfolios, understanding agricultural market trends and global trade requirements, and developing strong, long-term business relationships with seed industry partners. This position plays a critical role in expanding Johnny's wholesale market presence while supporting strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Sell Johnny's proprietary and produced seed varieties to domestic and international seed companies and wholesale distributors.
  • Develop and execute a multi-year business development strategy to expand Johnny's wholesale and international seed sales.
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with product managers, breeders, buyers, and decision-makers at targeted commercial seed companies.
  • Collaborate with Production Planning and Purchasing teams to accurately forecast customer demand and ensure seed availability.
  • Partner with Product Development and Plant Breeding teams to provide market insights and help establish breeding priorities and product objectives.
  • Work with USDA representatives and regulatory agencies to facilitate international seed exports and ensure compliance with country-specific import requirements.
  • Negotiate sales agreements and production contracts to secure product availability and support customer needs.
  • Identify and develop traditional and non-traditional distribution channels to increase wholesale and international sales.
  • Identify opportunities to market and sell excess or overstock seed inventory through strategic sales channels.
  • Represent Johnny's at industry trade shows, grower events, conferences, and vendor meetings to generate sales opportunities and identify potential new products for the Johnny's catalog.
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity, and provide regular updates and recommendations to management.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline information, and customer records within Salesforce and other company systems.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Marketing, or a related field preferred.

Sales & Business Development
  • Proven success in business-to-business (B2B) sales, account management, and business development.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Results-driven self-starter with a demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales objectives.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic sales and growth plans.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong customer relationship management and consultative selling abilities.
  • Ability to build credibility and foster productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across departments.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including:
    • Excel (advanced functionality, including PivotTables and data analysis)
    • PowerPoint (presentations, charts, graphics, and visual storytelling)

    • Teams (communication and collaboration)
  • Experience using CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in the seed, agriculture, horticulture, or related industries.
  • Practical experience growing or farming vegetables, herbs, flowers, or other specialty crops.
  • Knowledge of international agricultural trade, seed regulations, and export requirements.
  • Experience working with wholesale distribution channels and commercial seed markets.

Essential Requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel domestically and internationally as business needs require.
  • Ability to remain seated and work at a computer for up to 80% of the workday.
  • Ability to attend trade shows, industry events, customer visits, and business meetings as required.
