Overview

The Public Safety Shift Lead is responsible for assisting the Public Safety Manager and Public Safety Supervisor with the coordination, oversight, and daily operations of public safety and security services at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. This position serves as a working lead responsible for providing World Class Service while ensuring the safety, security, and overall protection of the venue, employees, guests, clients, and events.

The Public Safety Shift Lead provides direct supervision and guidance to Public Safety Officers and temporary security personnel during assigned shifts, assists with emergency preparedness initiatives, supports event security operations, and serves as a key point of contact for security-related matters. This position requires a professional, service-oriented individual capable of balancing operational security responsibilities with exceptional guest service.

The Public Safety Shift Lead assists in ensuring compliance with facility policies, safety procedures, and applicable Federal, State, and local laws while supporting the successful execution of events and daily facility operation

This role pays an hourly rate of $18.00-$19.00

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Public Safety Manager and Public Safety Supervisor with all services and activities related to facility and event security operations.
  • Provide shift leadership, direction, and support to Public Safety Officers and assigned security personnel.
  • Coordinate event security operations in conjunction with clients, event organizers, law enforcement, fire rescue, and other public safety partners.
  • Serve as a shift point of contact for security concerns, operational issues, guest assistance, and emergency situations.
  • Monitor and assist with the proper deployment of security personnel, including temporary security labor, ensuring appropriate placement, scheduling, sign-in procedures, verification of hours worked, and adherence to facility standards.
  • Assist with training, coaching, and performance feedback for Public Safety Officers and temporary security personnel.
  • Support the development, implementation, and enforcement of facility Emergency Preparedness Policies and Procedures, including training programs and emergency drills.
  • Serve as a facility Safety Officer during assigned shifts and assist with workplace safety initiatives.
  • Assist with workplace injury reporting, Workers' Compensation documentation, and coordination of related response procedures.
  • Conduct building, parking lot, and safety inspections; identify hazards, report deficiencies, and assist with corrective actions.
  • Inspect facility areas for inventory out of place, unsafe conditions, and operational concerns; correct or report issues as appropriate.
  • Monitor fire safety equipment, surveillance systems, access control systems, and other security-related technology.
  • Perform security checkpoints, access control assignments, patrols, and special security assignments as required.
  • Assist with theft deterrence, loss prevention efforts, and incident documentation.
  • Assist with key control procedures, including issuing and tracking keys for employees and clients.
  • Assist with daily parking operations and traffic management when needed.
  • Check event room sets and facility conditions; communicate issues requiring attention.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining workplace safety programs, including participation in or coordination of a Safety Committee.
  • Provide recommendations to improve security operations, safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in evaluating operational practices and recommending enhancements to improve service delivery and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate reports, logs, and documentation related to security activities, incidents, inspections, and personnel matters.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with employees, clients, guests, contractors, and public safety agencies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Public Safety Manager or Public Safety Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience in public facility security, safety operations, or a related security environment.
  • Experience providing guidance, direction, or leadership to security personnel or operational teams.
  • Knowledge of facility security operations, emergency procedures, crowd management, access control, and loss prevention practices.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, respond effectively to emergency situations, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work professionally with employees, clients, guests, contractors, law enforcement, fire rescue, and other public safety partners.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required by event schedules and operational needs.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and internet-based systems.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position, including lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, reaching, walking, and standing for extended periods, including outdoors.
