Job description

Job Summary:
The Security Guard protects the guests, employees, property, and assets of the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza and the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians. Working assigned shifts, security maintains a visible, professional presence throughout the plaza, parking lots, and surrounding grounds. The guard deters and responds to theft, disturbances, and safety hazards; enforces plaza policies and applicable laws; and provides courteous assistance to travelers. The position requires sound judgment, strong observation skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
Duties:
  • Patrol the interior and exterior of the travel plaza on foot, monitoring for suspicious activity, safety hazards, and policy or code violations.
  • Maintain a visible security presence to deter theft, vandalism, loitering, and disorderly conduct.
  • Monitor access points; document and report unusual activity.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, medical situations, taking appropriate action and notifying supervisors and emergency services as needed.
  • Enforce plaza rules and applicable federal, state, and tribal laws, including age-restricted sales policies for tobacco and other regulated products.
  • De-escalate conflicts and disturbances calmly and professionally; remove or detain individuals only when warranted and in accordance with policy and law.
  • Assist guests and employees with directions, vehicle lockouts, escorts, lost-and-found items, and other reasonable requests.
  • Write clear, accurate, and complete incident reports, daily activity logs, and shift summaries.
  • Secure doors, gates, fuel islands, and cash-handling areas; support opening and closing procedures.
  • Observe and report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, spills, and maintenance needs.
  • Provide traffic and crowd control during busy periods, events, and emergencies.
  • Cooperate with tribal police, local law enforcement, and emergency responders during investigations and incidents.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and evidence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear incident reports.
  • Basic computer skills for logging incidents.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods throughout an entire shift.
  • Ability to run, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme desert heat, and indoors in a busy retail and fuel-service environment.
  • Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to monitor surroundings and surveillance equipment.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and to physically intervene when necessary and appropriate.
  • Work is performed 24/7; the position requires availability for rotating day, swing, and graveyard shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, corrections, or a related field.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within a defined period after hire).
  • Familiarity with the Moapa community and tribal customs.
