Job description
Operational:
- Each operational day, review the post assignments and ensure all Guards have been trained on the post they are assigned to. Conduct any on the job training as needed for Guards in new posts and update their training record accordingly.
- Ensure all Guards have their post order cards when clocking in.
- Assist with monitoring floor operations to ensure the terminal operates to specifications.
- Monitor guards at their assigned zone(s) and help manage break periods to ensure proper staffing levels.
- Ensure all Screeners are performing proper procedures as trained on the post they are assigned to at the screening checkpoint. Conduct any on the job training as needed for Screeners in new posts and update their training record accordingly.
- Assist with monitoring checkpoint operations to ensure each checkpoint lane operates to specifications.
- Monitor Screeners at their assigned zone(s), ensure the rotation logs are current during each rotation.
- Ensure Lead Screeners are completing screener testing each week at the terminals by running approved test objects through the x-rays and logging the training and if necessary re-training the screeners.
- Perform other job-related functions as assigned.
Training:
- Meet all new hires for the first day at the terminal; provide terminal orientation, review safety plans, post orders, and sign off as part of the new hire training checklist.
- Coordinate with the OM for list of on-boarded new hires and start dates.
- Place new hires into assigned positions alongside experienced team members.
- Maintain and reinforce consistent adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching to security guards, screeners, and leads to improve individual and group performance. Report and document deficiencies at the end of each day. Make recommendations for improvement to the Supervisor, TSO, and Operations Manager.
- Once Screener classes have been held, ensure newly qualified Screeners are placed into their on-the-job training position alongside an experienced screener.
- Research and resolve quality issues by facilitating discussions to identify problems, examining and presenting alternative solutions, and helping develop action plans.
- Assist the Operations Manager and Director of Training with developing and implementing a formal training program.
- Organize and present training and development programs to new and existing employees by following learning objectives and curriculum as outlined in the training manual. Select instructional methods that meet employee and department needs.
- Organize and conduct periodic refresher courses as instructed by management.
- Facilitate the TSS Screener three day certification course for new screeners.
- Facilitate the TSS Re-certification screener course
- Facilitate Secondary Officer training course
- Ensure Screener Master Training logs are kept up to date for your respective ports for initial certification and re-certification.
- Facilitate the TSS FSO Course as required.
Language Skills:
- Ability to clearly read, write, and speak English fluently;
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret critical security-related documents and identification;
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, guests, employees, and management team.
Job Specification:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 2-3 years of experience in a customer service environment with two years of experience as a Trainer / Instructor, preferably in the travel and security industries.
- Must possess an active Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Must possess an active State Security Guard License (Class-D).
Physical Demands:
- Position includes frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling and speaking for up to 6-8 hour increments on average.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 20-50 lbs occasionally. Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull 10-20 lbs.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.
- Reach above shoulder level.
- Fine finger movements (plug-in outlet, type).
- Manual dexterity (ability to handle objects).
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Distinguishes shades of color or primary colors (e.g., to identify luggage).
Work Conditions:
- The position is exposed to an indoor and outdoor working environment at piers and terminals under varying weather conditions, including heat/humid environments or cold temperatures occasionally.
- Flexibility to work hours ranging from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm or until ships departures and including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- No fixed work schedule, will vary as the business dictates.
- Available to travel for Screener/FSO Class, location varies depending on client's location.
- Available for air travel to designated training location.
