Job description

SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare has several openings for Medical Center Protection Officers in our Security department. This full-time position will work nights and every other weekend. Starting base pay is $29.14 an hour but can vary based on previous experience. There is also evening, night, and weekend shift differentials.

Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in maintaining the safety and security of Medical Center facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects all buildings and grounds, as directed, to ensure that buildings are secure
  • Maintains observation of areas following organized activities to keep records of any damage to property
  • Notes and reports pertinent information concerning security control during the course of building and
  • grounds inspection to supervisory staff
  • Responds to requests for assistance in dealing with visitor and patient problems
  • May assist in restraining agitated individuals or patients
  • May physically restrain clients and provide secure escort
  • May be required to administer emergency First Aid and/or Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • May participate in formulation and implementation of safety and security procedures
  • Explains safety and security procedures and may instruct employees in use of safety equipment or procedures
  • Assists during safety drills
  • Directs emergency evacuation until police/firemen arrive
  • Checks and maintains safety and security equipment
  • Secures building areas by locking and unlocking doors at scheduled times
  • May physically expel unruly persons; prepares reports and maintains records
  • Performs other related work as required, but only after appropriate training
     

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of two years of college or technical college course work - preferably course work in the criminal justice field (e.g., police science, law enforcement, corrections)

-OR-

  • Two years of security experience, such as military police, industrial, proprietary or contract security experience within the last eight years

-OR-

  • Two years of hospital experience(e.g., Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Facilities, Environmental Services)

-OR-

  • An approved equivalent combination of training and experience

-AND-

  • Must successfully complete prescribed training during probationary period
  • May be required to be eligible and obtain a Minnesota Class B driver's license
