Job description


Position Description:
Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains enterprise software applications. Builds and maintains Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and supports infrastructure, system, and security configurations. Supports and maintains production environments including scripting and automation development. Builds automated tools to provide efficiency gains, reduce complexity, and eliminate manual steps. Writes clean, testable, readable, and easily maintainable code. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, testing, and implementing front-end and back-end applications, using secure software lifecycle principles within a multi-OS environment (Windows, MacOS, and UNIX or Linux).
Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing, developing, testing, and implementing front-end and back-end applications, using secure software lifecycle principles within a multi-OS environment (Windows, MacOS, and UNIX or Linux).
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
  • Demonstrate Expertise ("DE") designing and coordinating scalable back-end development using Python; creating responsive User Interfaces (UIs) using front-end technologies (Angular, JavaScript, and PHP); performing data automation and analysis using MySQL or Postgres, and NoSQL databases; and designing secure coding practices, implementing encryption standards, maintaining Identity and Access Management (IAM), integrating OAuth, and applying data encryption/decryption algorithms.
  • DE designing and setting up Cloud infrastructure within Amazon Web Services (AWS) to automate processes, using data from disparate platforms and in multi-cloud environments; developing and deploying applications using AWS (Lambda, KMS, API Gateway, and SQS); implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform; and maintaining network services (firewalls, VPNs, Domain Name System (DNS), and load balancing), using cybersecurity tools (AWS Shield or WAF).
  • DE building CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, uDeploy, JFrog Artifactory, and GitHub Actions; scripting with Shell, Groovy, and PowerShell; monitoring code quality using SonarQube tools, CloudWatch, and Datadog; performing testing in Python, and implementing container platforms using Docker, and Kubernetes; and integrating security testing in CI/CD pipelines using GitHub secret scanning, OWASP principles, compliance checks, and vulnerability scanning, as well as using secure web gateways and proxy solutions.
  • DE performing in the full Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) -- collecting business requirements, translating requirements into technical specifications, architecting and designing comprehensive solutions, and testing and providing technical support to ensure the project delivery meets client expectations - according to Agile methodologies.
