What is a second editor?

Second Editors, also known as assistant editors or secondary editors, are professionals who support the lead editor in the post-production process of films, television, or other media projects. Their responsibilities include organizing footage, assembling rough cuts, managing media assets, and ensuring continuity throughout the editing process. They may also handle technical tasks such as syncing audio, creating backups, and preparing materials for review. Second Editors play a crucial role in maintaining the workflow and efficiency of the editing team, allowing the lead editor to focus on the creative aspects of the project.

How does a second editor typically collaborate with other team members during the editing process?

A Second Editor works closely with the Lead Editor, writers, and sometimes the production team to ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy in content. This role often involves reviewing and refining material that has already undergone an initial edit, providing a fresh perspective and catching errors that may have been missed. Second Editors frequently communicate feedback, suggest revisions, and help maintain or improve the publication's style and quality. Collaboration may take place via shared editing platforms, regular meetings, or direct communication to address specific editorial concerns and deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a second editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Second Editor, you need a strong command of grammar, style, and language conventions, typically supported by a relevant degree or professional editing experience. Proficiency with editing tools such as Microsoft Word track changes, Adobe Acrobat, and content management systems is commonly required. Attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for ensuring quality and meeting deadlines. These skills are vital to maintain publication standards, enhance clarity, and support seamless collaboration in editorial workflows.

Job description

Agency:

Omnicom Advertising

Job Function:

Production

Job Subfunction:

Post Production

Job Description:

Editor - EP+Co
At EP+Co, we're looking for an Editor who knows how to make people stop scrolling.
We're not looking for someone who only edits video. We're looking for someone who understands modern content.
Someone who understands pacing. Story. Timing. Emotion. Someone who can cut a 30-second spot, a six-second social ad, an internal film, or a piece of branded content-and make every frame earn its place.
This isn't an assembly-line editing job. You'll work alongside creatives, producers, strategists, designers, copywriters, and account teams to create work for national and regional brands. Every project is different. That's the fun part.
If you love solving creative problems, embrace new technology (including AI), and care as much about organization as you do about storytelling, keep reading.
What you'll doEdit compelling video content across social, broadcast, internal communications, and agency marketing.
Create motion graphics and animation using Adobe After Effects.
Color correct, mix audio, finish projects, and sweat the details that separate good work from great work.
Collaborate with producers, creatives, designers, copywriters, and account teams from kickoff through delivery.
Manage multiple projects without letting quality slip.
Organize footage, project files, and assets so your teammates don't have to become detectives.
Use AI-powered creative tools and emerging workflows to work smarter-not just faster.
Adapt your editing style to fit different brands, audiences, and platforms.
What we're looking for
You have professional experience editing in Adobe Premiere Pro and are confident working in After Effects.
You understand motion graphics, animation, audio, color, finishing, and everything that turns a rough cut into a polished piece of work.
You're organized enough to juggle multiple deadlines, collaborative enough to welcome feedback, and confident enough to bring ideas of your own.
A portfolio that demonstrates strong storytelling across social, digital, and broadcast work is essential.
Agency experience is a plus.
We love makers.
Some people wait to be assigned creative work. Others are constantly making things because they can't help themselves.
Maybe you're editing passion projects after hours. Maybe you're shooting documentaries, creating YouTube videos, animating title sequences, experimenting with AI filmmaking, photographing concerts, or helping friends launch brands.
Whatever your outlet, we love people who are naturally curious and always creating. The medium matters less than the mindset.
This part matters.
We're looking for someone who embraces AI as another creative tool-not someone who's looking for AI to do the creative thinking for them.
We also believe great editors don't just execute-they elevate. They find the better cut. The stronger performance. The moment everyone else missed. They care about the details because they know that's where the magic lives.
The best editors today know how to combine craft, curiosity, and technology to make better work. If you're already experimenting with AI-powered production tools and finding ways to improve your workflow, we want to talk.
You'll probably love this role if you...Care about storytelling more than flashy transitions.
Notice pacing, rhythm, and sound design before anyone else.
Love collaborating with talented people who challenge your ideas.
Can switch from a broadcast spot to a TikTok edit without missing a beat.
Take ownership of your work from first cut through final export.
Stay curious and are always learning new tools and techniques.
Believe every project deserves your best work, regardless of budget or runtime.
A few things to know
This is aGreenville, SC-based hybrid position. We work remotely onMondays and Fridays, and collaborate together in ourGreenville office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
We're looking for someone who wants to be part of that in-person creative energy. This is not a remote position.
This is also a collaborative, deadline-driven role. While most work happens during normal business hours, occasional evenings or weekends may be needed around production schedules and client deadlines.
If that sounds exciting instead of exhausting, you're probably our kind of person.
If not-all good. This one's probably not for you.

Omnicom's policy requires employees to work in the office for a minimum of three days a week, unless additional in-office days are directed by their agency or manager. Our objective is to increase this requirement over time, and many of our agencies as well as Omnicom's corporate group already require five days of in-office attendance.

Omnicom is committed to hiring and developing exceptional talent. We agree that talent is uniquely distributed, and we're focused on developing inclusive teams that can bring the best solutions to everything we do.
