How much do secco jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 4, 2026, the average yearly pay for secco in the United States is $65,000.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $62,500.00 and $67,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a secco?

Secco jobs refer to positions related to the construction technique known as 'secco' or 'a secco,' which involves building or decorating without the use of wet materials like plaster or mortar. In the context of art, 'a secco' refers to painting on dry plaster, as opposed to 'fresco,' which is painting on wet plaster. In construction, secco jobs may include tasks such as dry stone walling or installing dry partition systems. Secco workers typically need skills in precise measurement, material handling, and finishing techniques for dry construction. These roles are important in both traditional restoration projects and modern building techniques.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a secco?

To thrive as a Secco (Drywall Finisher), you need proficiency in drywall installation, taping, mudding, and finishing, typically acquired through vocational training or apprenticeships. Familiarity with tools like trowels, sanding machines, and drywall lifts, as well as safety certifications such as OSHA, is often required. Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a construction team are valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure smooth, high-quality wall finishes and contribute to the timely and safe completion of construction projects.

What are common challenges a secco faces on the job, and how can they be managed?

Secco professionals often encounter challenges such as tight project deadlines, working in confined or awkward spaces, and coordinating with other trades like electricians and plumbers. Managing these challenges involves strong time management, clear communication with team members, and a good understanding of construction site safety practices. Staying organized and proactively addressing potential conflicts with scheduling or workspace can help ensure smooth project completion and a safer work environment.
