Role Overview: What You'll Be Doing 

This Senior Technical & SEC Accountant is responsible for researching and applying complex accounting guidance, preparing SEC filings, and supporting financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations. This role partners closely with Finance, Legal, FP&A, Internal Audit, and external auditors to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial disclosures. 

This position can be based in our New York Office or our Atlanta Office on a Hybrid Basis.

Responsibilities

Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions) 

Technical Accounting 

  • Research, interpret, and document accounting conclusions for complex transactions under US GAAP (e.g., revenue recognition, equity, leases, business combinations, debt, impairments).
  • Prepare technical accounting memos and position papers to support accounting conclusions.
  • Monitor new accounting standards (FASB, SEC, PCAOB) and assess the impact on the company; lead implementation efforts as needed.
  • Provide advisory support to business partners on accounting implications of strategic initiatives, transactions, and contracts.

SEC Reporting & Financial Disclosures 

  • Prepare SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy statements, and other required disclosures.
  • Draft financial statement footnotes, MD&A, and other narrative disclosures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Support earnings release preparation and tie-out to SEC filings.

Financial Reporting & Close Support 

  • Assist with period-end close activities related to technical accounting matters.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement schedules with a focus on technical accuracy.
  • Ensure consistency and proper application of accounting policies across the organization.
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial reporting processes, controls, and documentation.
  • Support automation and system enhancements related to reporting and disclosures.

Audit & Stakeholder Management 

  • Coordinate with external auditors on technical accounting and SEC reporting matters.
  • Support internal audit requests and SOX compliance related to financial reporting and disclosures.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Treasury, Tax, and FP&A teams to align accounting conclusions and disclosures.
Qualifications

What You Bring to the Table: Education & Certification Requirements 

We're looking for someone who has a unique mix of experience, skills, and passion for what we do:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • 2-5+ years of combined public accounting and/or relevant industry experience 
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements 
  • Hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing SEC filings 

The Extras We Value (Preferred Requirements) 

While not mandatory, here are some additional things that would make you stand out: 

  • Big 4 public accounting firm experience 
  • CPA license (active or ability to obtain) 
  • Experience working with complex transactions and public company reporting 
  • Prior exposure to SOX 404 compliance 
  • Experience working with Workiva 

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment 
  • Ability to speak and hear clearly in person and via phone or video 
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach 
  • Ability to lift and move up to 10 to 15 pounds occasionally, such as files or office supplies 
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus for computer screens and documents

At Wheels Up, we believe in fair compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The yearly compensation for this role ranges from $89,000 to $105,000, depending on a variety of factors. We don't typically start individuals at the top of the salary range; your place within the range is based on what you bring to the table. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program, which rewards individual and organizational performance.
