Job description

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a Senior Copywriter to help shape and evolve the creative voice of Washington's Lottery across brand campaigns, social content, retail experiences, partnership programs, and integrated marketing initiatives. This is an opportunity to create work that sparks imagination, drives conversation, and connects with people across Washington State through culture, entertainment, sports, and community.

From large-scale campaign platforms to social-first content and experiential activations, you'll help develop ideas that make the Lottery feel culturally relevant, entertaining, and impossible to ignore. We're looking for a writer who can move seamlessly between smart strategic thinking, sharp headlines, compelling storytelling, and social content that earns attention.

Washington's Lottery is deeply connected to the culture of the Pacific Northwest, creating opportunities to develop campaigns and partnerships with some of the region's most iconic organizations, including the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Kraken, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Storm, and other local partners. You'll help create integrated campaigns that bring together sports, entertainment, culture, and community in ways that feel authentic to Washington audiences.

VML Seattle is a small, tight-knit team with the backing and resources of a global creative network. We believe great work comes from living a full life outside the office. Fortunately, we call one of the most beautiful and creatively vibrant cities in the country home, surrounded by mountains, water, culture, and endless inspiration.

What You'll Do
  • Concept and write integrated campaigns across Washington's Lottery portfolio, from major brand platforms to seasonal promotions, partnership programs, and new game launches.
  • Develop compelling campaign ideas, sharp headlines, and distinctive brand storytelling across social, digital, OOH, broadcast, experiential, retail, and emerging channels.
  • Create social-first content and campaign extensions that help the brand participate in culture in authentic and engaging ways.
  • Develop creative campaigns and promotional concepts tied to partnerships with professional sports teams, entertainment properties, and cultural organizations throughout Washington State.
  • Concept social-first, experiential, retail, and integrated campaign ideas that leverage partnerships with organizations such as the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Kraken, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Storm, and other local brands and properties.
  • Help create culturally relevant content and fan experiences that connect Washington's Lottery to the passions and communities that define the Pacific Northwest.
  • Partner closely with art directors, designers, producers, social teams, and clients to bring ideas to life across every touchpoint.
  • Collaborate throughout production, with opportunities to work directly on photo shoots, video productions, content creation, and campaign launches.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Lottery brand voice, ensuring consistency while continually finding fresh and unexpected ways to connect with audiences.
  • Help identify cultural trends, audience behaviors, and emerging opportunities that can inspire breakthrough creative work.
Who You Are
  • You are a talented copywriter with strong conceptual instincts and a portfolio that demonstrates both strategic thinking and creative range.
  • You can write everything from a six-word headline to a fully integrated campaign platform.
  • You understand how ideas work differently across social, digital, experiential, retail, and traditional channels and can adapt your writing accordingly.
  • You have strong social instincts and understand how brands earn attention, participation, and engagement in modern media environments.
  • You are naturally curious about culture, entertainment, sports, and human behavior, constantly looking for insights that can fuel great creative work.
  • You are a collaborative creative who enjoys building ideas with multidisciplinary teams and is energized by solving complex creative challenges.
  • You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, taking creative risks, and championing bold ideas from concept through execution.
What You'll Need
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong conceptual thinking and excellence across multiple channels, including social, digital, OOH, video, experiential, retail, and integrated campaigns.
  • Proven experience developing campaign platforms and brand storytelling that can scale across channels and audiences.
  • Strong social content instincts and an understanding of how brands earn attention in modern media environments.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to shift tone and style depending on audience, platform, and objective.
  • Experience working within integrated creative teams and collaborating throughout the production process.
  • Experience creating work for sports, entertainment, lifestyle, consumer, retail, or culturally driven brands is a plus.
  • A portfolio that shows both big campaign thinking and strong executional craft.
  • Experience with partnership marketing, sponsorship activations, or co-branded campaigns is a plus.
