Job description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Robotics Coach to join the Holy Names Academy, Reign Robotics Team. This is an exciting opportunity to mentor young women in STEM, build a strong robotics program, and gain hands-on experience in coaching, project management, and team leadership. The Assistant Robotics Coach will work closely with the Head Robotics Coach, learning the ins and outs of leading a competitive robotics team. The goal of this position is to develop the skills necessary to take on the Head Coach role in the future.
General Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Robot Building Support: Assist with the hands-on building and programming of the team's robot during both the off-season and build/competition seasons.
  • Business Team Collaboration: Work with the student business team to ensure that marketing efforts align with the needs of the robotics team and the mission of the school.
  • Mentorship & Development: Learn and collaborate closely with the Head Coach to understand the responsibilities involved in leading a robotics team, with the intent to take over leadership in the coming years.
  • Student Registration & Permission Slips: Oversee and manage student registration for the team, including ensuring that all permission slips are completed for events.
  • Team Apparel: Coordinate the ordering and distribution of team shirts and other apparel, ensuring that the team presents itself cohesively at events.
  • Outreach Event Arrangements: Help organize and manage outreach events aimed at promoting the team and encouraging interest in robotics within the school and broader community.
     
Time Commitment:
Off-Season (September - December):
  • Frequency: One or two days per week.
  • Hours: Typically 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM (specific days to be discussed with the Head Coach).
Build/Competition Season (January - March, possibly Mid-April depending on qualification for districts):
  • Frequency: Monday-Friday.
  • Hours: Typically 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
  • Note: Holidays are excluded, but there may be additional time requirements for certain activities and events.
Event/Competition Weekends:
  • The team will participate in two competition weekends in March, with additional outreach events in the fall (usually October). Availability for these weekends is required.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: While prior robotics experience is not required, some background in STEM, engineering, or related fields is highly preferred.
  • Interest in Coaching & Mentorship: A passion for working with high school students and fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and encouraging team environment.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with students, parents, and external partners.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, including event planning and coordination.
  • Team-Oriented: A collaborative spirit and willingness to support both the robotics team and the business team as they work together toward common goals.
  • Commitment to Diversity: A passion for promoting diversity in STEM fields and creating a welcoming environment for all students.
Compensation:
$3000 - $5000 stipend
