Description
This non-supervisory position is responsible for the operation of equipment requiring above-average driving skills and manipulative ability and for mowing over 200 acres of city-owned property and vacant lots within the city; must be able to skillfully operate tractor with mower and other related equipment. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood "I SERVE" Core Values.
Examples of Duties
1) Operate tractor with mower attachments; 2) Operate power mower, hedge trimmers, edger and weed eater when required; 3) Perform routine grounds maintenance, including cutting grass, trimming hedges and trees, planting grass, watering, filling holes, picking up litter and other debris; 4) Perform preventative maintenance on equipment; 5) Assist in the general clean-up of all areas of the city, including downtown, as directed by the Parks Supervisor; 6) Assist in repairs of fences, gates, walls, playground equipment and bleachers including painting and plumbing; 7) Operates welder and cutting torch; 8) Assist in moving tables, chairs and other equipment to various locations as directed by Parks Supervisor; 9) Cleans restrooms in park and recreational buildings; 10) Perform other duties as assigned by Parks Supervisor.
Typical Qualifications
Valid Texas Class C Driver License..
Must be able to read & write effectively for this position; must be able to comprehend and speak the English language; a high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but not required.
Basic knowledge of operating characteristics of light equipment, practices, and ability to perform preventative maintenance; Ability to use good judgment within reasonable guidelines; Ability to perform manual labor; Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions. Ability to understand directions and to communicate with others at the basic level required for the job; ability to operate tractor with mower and other related equipment necessary to maintain grounds, with one year of related experience.
Supplemental Information
Outside, in cases of emergency, required to work nights and weekends. Occasional overtime hours required. Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push broom, sweep, and dig. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting grass and tree limbs. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication.
