Job Role Summary
The Fleet Logistics Technician is responsible for performing routine safety inspections and basic preventative maintenance on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under general supervision safely and competently perform routine safety inspections and basic preventative maintenance on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
1.Check, and Fill or refer for service as appropriate

1. Engine Oil
2. Transmission fluid
3. Brake Fluid
4. Windshield Washer Fluids
5. Diesel Emission Control Fluids
6. Fuel, Gasoline
7. Fuel, Diesel
8. Fuel, Liquid Propane
9. Fuel, CNG
10. Engine coolant

2. Change Engine and Ambulance batteries that do not require heavy disassembly or lifts to access
3. Inspect, test and replace standard vehicle lights as needed

1. Headlamp
2. Tail Lamp
3. Clearance lamp

4.Replace designated emergency warning lights
5.Assess and replace automotive fuses
6.Assess and replace windshield wipers
7.Adjust manual valves for heat / AC swaps in seasonal ambulance switchovers
8.Repair or replace plugs and sockets on heavy duty shore line cords
9.Perform drive tests and evaluate general status of vehicles running condition.
10.Assess tire for tread depth, excess or uneven wear, and damage.
11.Safely utilize vehicle lift for inspections of vehicle tires and undercarriage.
12.Inspect safety and restraint systems and refer deficiencies for service

• Inform appropriate EMS Section Chief if damage or deficiencies of vehicles or equipment is found; appropriately documents observations.
• Keep up-to-date with the service and operation of equipment and vehicles by participating in educational programs and in-service meetings
• Provide thoughtful feedback and suggestions based on accumulating work experiences.
• Attend meetings as required
• Maintain a safe, secure and clean environment that is compliant to all regulations; performs routine cleaning, sweeping, and de-cluttering of garage floors
• Maintain stock levels in designated EMS vehicles by ordering, receiving and stocking parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
• Coordinate vehicle deliveries to facilitate routine maintenance scheduled through EMS Fleet Section Chief.
• Communicate accurate and detailed information to supervisory staff and coworkers.
• Properly stores and disposes of general trash
• Properly disposes of regulated wastes such as Biohazard, electronic scrap, batteries, and chemicals.
• Prepares job-related reports and documentation as required
• Safely drive and operate a wide assortment of IEMS vehicles including 2x4 and 4x4 drive
• Safely drive and operate a wide assortment of IEMS vehicles while pulling 1 or 2 axle trailers weighing >10,000 lbs

ASSOCIATED JOB DUTIES

• Assists with the care and maintenance of the reserve fleet of ambulances including inspection of vehicles being returned by crews and if necessary, cleans, stocks, fuels, checks fluid levels and the operation of all ambulance related accessories
• Assists Warehouse Coordinator with determining need for materials requisitions and receives, stores and distributes hospital supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals used by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services and supported departments and external agencies.
• Assists in
  1. Maintaining emergency medical service (EMS) supply warehouse Par Level with emphasis on "radio room" ready supply
  2. Packaging, recording and delivering IEMS requisitions to crew stations located throughout Marion County
  3. Ensuring vehicles assigned to IEMS logistics are ready to respond to an emergency situation by inspecting, cleaning and maintaining vehicle inventory, fluids and emergency accessories
  4. Retrieving, inspecting, and cleaning IEMS equipment from area hospitals
  5. Making minor repairs to broken equipment or delivering broken items to the appropriate repair facility
  6. Ensuring preventative maintenance schedules for equipment are maintained
  7. Retrieving and delivering paperwork to appropriate locations
• Assumes assigned responsibility as unit leader when working without direct supervision
• Performs other job related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Have graduated from an accredited automotive technical school OR 2 year previous experience in one of the following areas: automotive and light truck repair, First Responder or EMT, Warehouse Operations, Medical Supply Distribution Systems, or Healthcare / Biomedical Equipment Repair
• Valid Driver's License - must meet and remain in compliance with IEMS driver eligibility policy
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
• American Health Association CPR Certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
• Continuing education to maintain all required certifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Must maintain age and job-specific competencies described according to department/area/and unit specific competencies
• Ability to read, write and use computer technology in taking inventories, requisitioning supplies, communicate and other related duties. Must be able to use
• Mechanical aptitude required in conducting equipment maintenance checks and detecting mechanical malfunctions on EMS equipment and vehicles
• Knowledge and ability to communicate through e-mail, a two-way radio, and a cellular "smart" phone
• Knowledge of the Indiana EMS Rules and Regulations concerning equipment and supplies required for ambulance certification
• Ability to use age appropriate communication skills

• Maintains patient and family confidentiality
• Maintains protected health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy guidelines and regulations

JUDGMENT
Employee may work under general supervision and receives general guidance on work priority with substantial employee latitude
CONTACTS - INTERNAL/EXTERNAL

• HHCMC department contacts to acquire supplies and equipment for maintenance/repair
• IEMS personnel contact regarding to advise, respond to service needs and solve problems
• Outside facility contact concerning vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair
• General public contact
• External contacts with vendors to obtain advice, parts, and service

SPECIAL EFFORT REQUIRED

• Ability to lift 75 lbs without assistance and carry Fleet and EMS related items with either hand
• Frequent vehicle travel is required; driving may occur during day, night and inclement weather
• Avoid errors in shipments and improper storage methods
• Must interact with the public and other agency personnel in a positive and professional manner
• Must maintain constant contact with dispatch and/or incident commands, Command Staff by telephone, smartphone, and mobile data terminal
• Must follow the Exposure Control Plan when cleaning contaminated items and areas
• Must be able to follow detailed work, service and repair instructions
• Must be able to work or lift in awkward or strained position during emergencies and certain repair procedures
• Must have corrected binocular vision of 20/40
• Must be capable of safely working alone for periods of 18 hours
• Must be able to properly and safely use assigned personal Protective Equipment (PPE); must meet all current and any future OSHA or agency updated physical requirements for the use of mandatory PPE

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Duties are performed inside and outside. Activities may be in a clean hospital; outside duties will require exposure to various weather conditions
• Patient care areas, clinics, nursing offices.
• May be required to attend meetings or perform work remote from HQ, clinic, or hospital campus.
