Job Title:

Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) – Roman Catholic

Location: Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico Memorial Chapel, Chapel Annex, and Education Building, Quantico, Virginia 22134.

Type of Job: Full-Time Position

Schedule: Flexible work schedule coordinated with the Command Chaplain and Director of Religious Education. Duties include weekday office hours, weekly religious education activities, Sunday programs, retreats, conferences, and special chapel events throughout the academic year (September–June).

Summary:

The Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering the Roman Catholic Religious Education Program for Marine Corps Base Quantico. The CRE develops age-appropriate faith formation programs for children and youth, recruits and trains volunteers, coordinates sacramental preparation, retreats, conferences, and religious education events, and works closely with the Roman Catholic Chaplain, Director of Religious Education (DRE), and chapel staff to support the Command Religious Program.

Minimum Education:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Religious education, theology, ministry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Must become certified as a Catechist through the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) within one year of contract start.
Minimum Experience:
  • Experience in Roman Catholic religious education, catechesis, or church ministry.
  • Previous experience supporting Department of Defense or military chapel religious education programs is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers, youth programs, and sacramental preparation is preferred.
Requirements:
  • Must be a baptized and confirmed member of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of Roman Catholic theology, catechesis, and sacramental preparation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to use audio/visual presentation equipment.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
  • Must successfully complete required background checks and mandatory reporter training.
Duties:
  • Develop and implement the annual Roman Catholic Religious Education Program.
  • Coordinate registration and maintain student enrollment records.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer catechists.
  • Plan and coordinate First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation preparation.
  • Organize sacramental retreats, service projects, youth conferences, pilgrimages, and seasonal religious events.
  • Develop annual calendars, lesson plans, curriculum, and educational materials.
  • Coordinate Children's Christmas Liturgy and other special chapel programs.
  • Support home-school religious education families.
  • Attend religious education board and committee meetings.
  • Prepare annual Religious Education Plans, work schedules, budgets, and program reports.
  • Coordinate closely with the Roman Catholic Chaplain, Director of Religious Education, chapel staff, and volunteers to ensure successful execution of all religious education activities.
  • Ensure all programs comply with Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) guidance and Marine Corps Base Quantico Chapel requirements.
