WORK LOCATION: Seguin, New Braunfels, Luling, Lockhart, San Marcos, Texas


SUMMARY

The Pipeline Maintenance Crewman is responsible for assisting in the operation and performing emergency or scheduled maintenance, cleaning, inspections of the pumping equipment, storage facilities, tools and equipment, and distribution networks of GBRA pipelines.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep a working knowledge of GBRA's commitment and policies as they relate to the Pipeline Operations.
  • Perform organizational maintenance and general repair work, under the direction of the Hydro Maintenance Supervisor, to pumping equipment, storage facilities, pipelines, distribution systems, rolling stock (including heavy equipment) and small tools and equipment.
  • Perform building and grounds maintenance at all locations.
  • Maintain an inventory of all tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in preparation for emergency operations.
  • Clean and organize service vehicles as required, at least once per week.
  • Perform routine duties such as meter installations and replacements, leak repair, exercising of valves, flushing waterlines, collection system repairs, operating pump stations, and other budgeted or required work.
  • Respond to 811 Utility locate requests.
  • Safeguard all facilities and property.
  • Respond courteously to customer questions or complaints.
  • Assist the Hydro Maintenance Supervisor with the maintenance records of the RRWDS, GPP, and LULO pipeline facilities.
  • Collect samples and check disinfectant residuals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

ย KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Work weekends and nights as needed and respond to callouts and emergencies.
  • Ability to drive and operate UTVs, Back-hoes, Excavators, Skid-steers, etc., and other highway-rated vehicles such as trucks.
  • Work in a team environment, adhering to GBRA Commitment and Promise statements.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications.ย 
  • Ability to operate a dozer, loader, excavator, and dump truck is desirable.
  • Operate gas, electric, hydraulic, and hand tools with both hands.
  • Work with the computerized Asset Management program and possible additional database software.
  • Perform all work safely and thoughtfully. Follow all requirements of the GBRA Safety Manual.
  • The permanent residence must be such that roadway travel time from home to the reporting station takes no more than 45 minutes. This response time must be achieved without violating traffic laws.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED.


REGISTRATIONS/LICENSES

1. Acceptable M.V.R.ย 

2. Minimum of "D" Water license preferred.

3. Must possess "C" Distribution within two (2) years of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Work at elevated levels of over 30 feet on platforms, roofs, suspension bridges, etc. Climb up and down vertical ladders up to 20 feet in height. Repeatedly lift, load, and unload up to 50 pounds. Respond to visual and audible alarms. Wear personal protection equipment as outlined in the employee Safety Manual, such as a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Enter and work in confined spaces, as defined by OSHA. Perform basic first aid and CPR. Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with the ANSI or ASTM standards. New employees are provided protective footwear. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

80% outdoor and 20% indoor. There are hazards associated with chemicals and rotating or moving mechanical parts, requiring operators to exercise care in their activities. Works with or around chemicals used in the treatment of water and wastewater. Potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals and possible disease-causing bacteria.


TRAVEL

Personal transportation is required to the normal work site, where the employee will use vehicles provided by GBRA to perform duties. Overnight travel is primarily for meetings and training.ย
