Job description

Duties Description This is a full-time, seasonal position that will assist the SPIF department in the Long Island Region. Under the supervision of higher-level personnel in the SPIF department, the primary work this position will involve: Driving a variety of motor vehicles, including automobiles and trucks, to transport people, material, and equipment. Incumbent may post manifests and other records of goods and people transported in order to document their safe delivery.

Prepare reports, map routes, itineraries, and points of call. Lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes, and other cargo onto and off of transport vehicles Assist with groundwork with the Regional Tree crew Safety-sensitive testing pre-operation and random inclusion Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Prior employment candidates must possess Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)* with air brake endorsement that allows the candidate to legally operate a commercial vehicle in New York State, or be willing to obtain Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)* with air brake endorsement that allows the candidate to legally operate a commercial vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.

Must be at least 18 years old Must possess strong organizational and critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently or on a team. Must be able to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time outside and lift up to 50 lbs. Experience with bucket truck operation skills preferred.

Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicles operated Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures Must be able to physically operate assigned vehicles as required Must be willing to keep current on all mandated safety trainings, including First Aid and CPR/AED *Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in preemployment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. BENEFITS: This position has the option to join the NYS Employees' Retirement System and may be eligible for health insurance, dental and vision coverage as well as the opportunity for paid time off in the form of vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave after time and service requirements have been met.
