Job description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Custodian/Repairperson is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that cooperative buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports to Manager of Safety, Forestry and Facilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Custodian/Repairperson is responsible for the following tasks:
    1. Clean building by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
    2. Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner
    3. Service, clean and supply restrooms
    4. Gather and empty trash
    5. Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment in office and facilities
    6. Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings
    7. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
    8. Steam clean or shampoo carpets; strip, seal, finish and polish floors
    9. Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using lift assistance
    10. Wash interior and exterior windows
    11. Perform minor maintenance repairs and installations, including snow removal and lawn equipment; changing oil, blades, filters, etc.
    12. Manicure grounds and landscape including mowing, weed control, planting, mulching or removing undesirable plants/shrubs
    13. Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning, maintenance and event planning duties
    14. Replace light bulbs and ballasts on regular schedule
    15. Deliver trucks, trailers and equipment to field personnel as requested
    16. Clean company vehicles as directed
    17. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
    18. Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
    19. Clearing snow/debris from walkways and parking lot
    20. Maintain general service requirements of HVAC equipment
    21. Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations department seasonal help.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. High School Diploma/GED
  2. Valid Illinois driver's license

WORK CONDITIONS

Work will be performed inside and outside; with the outside work involving various weather conditions.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear.
  2. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  3. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  5. Requires face-to-face discussions with individuals
  6. Includes exposure to contaminants
  7. Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  8. Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require.
  2. Demonstrated competency in use of computer and Microsoft suite.
  3. Must observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by CBEC.
  4. Must attend schools and conferences as requested by the CBEC management.
  5. Must be able to travel on a limited basis. Most trips will be limited to a two hundred mile radius of Bloomington; occasional other trips in the country.

Must be able to pass a background check. We also conduct pre-employment drug testing. Any job offer will be based on the results of background and drug testing.
