Job description

Description:

The Blake School seeks to hire a College Counseling Liaison starting in August of 2026. This educator should be well-versed in providing nuanced student-centered writing feedback and enjoy working with high school seniors. This is a 0.25 position with a salary range of $17,000 - $18,125.


The primary purpose of this position is to support Blake seniors in their college applications by educating them about the college essay and providing feedback on their application essay drafts during the application season (primarily August through February). Additional office responsibilities are assigned throughout the school year, as needed by the director of College Counseling.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide feedback on all essays related to the college application process including, but not limited to, the personal essay, institution-specific and supplemental essays, essays for international colleges and universities and scholarship programs
  • Teach college essay workshops during the summer and school year for Blake seniors
  • Meet with students as necessary in support of their essay writing
  • May be asked to write articles for the College Counseling Newsletter
  • May be asked to review College Counseling Newsletter, College Counseling Handbook and other communications sent by the College Counseling office
  • Participate in occasional College Counseling programming throughout the year including parent and guardian webinars
  • Ability to use college counseling software (Naviance), G Suite and video conferencing platforms
  • Other duties as assigned by the director of College Counseling


Working Conditions:

Able to adapt work hours to the seasonal nature of college admission with the most demanding time from mid-August through mid-January when night and weekend work may be necessary.

Ability to provide prompt feedback, typically within 24 to 48 hours, of receipt of an essay.

This position is a mix of in-person and online work.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

Superb communication skills, especially writing and speaking

Intercultural competence; demonstrated capacity to work with students from a broad array of backgrounds and lived experiences

Professional experience in college admission preferred

4 years related professional experience

Experience working with high school students

Collaborative approach to a work environment

High standards of ethics, especially related to best practices in editing and authorship
