Security Officer- Seasonal 2nd Shift

Job Description

Position Summary

The Security Officer maintains security protection which includes money transactions, public relations, crowd control, performing command center functions, assisting guests, customers and team members as needed to maintain order; provides administrative support to the Security Supervisor; and performs related tasks within the area of assignment.

Essential Functions

(The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all inclusive for specific positions.)

Delivers superior internal and external guest service the Boyd Gaming Way and works harmoniously with fellow team members

  1. Maintains order on Belterra Park property providing extraordinary guest service at all times and has the resiliency to deal with the difficult customer.
  2. Monitors and patrols assigned areas to provide a safe environment for guests and employees.
  3. Assists guests and employees on directions and proper procedures.
  4. Protects all transfers of money on the gaming floor as well as the physical transportation of jackpots.
  5. Assists sick or injured guests and employees.
  6. Reports unsafe or hazardous conditions.
  7. Checks identification of all persons that appear to be under 21 years of age.
  8. Stays alert for, reports, and responds appropriately to all violations on company property.
  9. Composes accident/incident reports and witness statements when necessary.
  10. Operates company vehicles in a safe manner.
  11. Responds to Emergency situations as necessary. Conducts emergency actions including, but not limited to performing evacuations, establishing and maintaining cordons, and perimeters.
  12. Performs dispatch activities and logs all dispatches accurately.
  13. Prepares detailed reports on security incidents and submits to Security Management for review.
  14. Maintains confidentiality with respect to company and guest information.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain extremely confidential information.
  • General familiarity with investigative procedures.
  • Must be bondable with no felony convictions.
  • Valid government-issued photo identification, required.
  • Ability to compose clear, accurate, and concise reports preferred.
  • CPR Certificate and blood borne pathogen training preferred.
  • Ability to obtain the appropriate work authorization per gaming regulations.
  • Ability to work in a drug free environment and pass a chemical dependency test as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Gaming regulations.

The skills are typically acquired through two months of on-the-job training, or through related experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • This position spends a majority of on-duty time standing and/or walking in public areas of the property, including but not limited to, the gaming pavilion, restaurants, meeting spaces, rooming areas, parking lots, and grounds.
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently transverse stairs, uneven surfaces, varied flooring surfaces and ground coverings while patrolling, responding to calls for service or emergency situations.
  • Ability to compose, review and comprehend, clear, concise and accurate reports.
  • Must be able to identify and quickly respond to potential problems, altercations and conflicts and defend self and others in combative situations.
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs, move money boxes, carts and drop equipment as necessary.
  • Must be able to assist sick or injured guests and/or employees.
  • Ability to communicate courteously, effectively, and professionally with guests, outside contacts and all levels of employees.
  • Must be able to use tools and equipment, including but not limited to, keys, handcuffs, flashlights, radios, computers and other tools specific to the position.
  • Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
  • May drive company vehicles at times
  • Ability to perform duties under varying conditions, including but not limited to, exposure to varying levels of crowds, noise, and changing weather conditions.

Knowledge of:

Operations, services and activities of facility and event security; principles and practices of security and investigative procedures; knowledge of civil and criminal laws; principles and techniques of laws concerning powers of arrest and electronic, video and alarm functions; principles and practices of First Aide; venue and facility points of interest, design and set up; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Ability to:

Secure assigned areas of the department; identify and quickly respond to potential problems and conflict and defend self and others in combative situations; adjust to varying levels of crowds, noise levels, smoke and weather conditions; to lift, push and pull drop boxes and money carts; to assist sick or injured customers or team members; operates a variety of equipment to include hand radios, monitors, fire extinguishers, resuscitation equipment, recording devices, alarm key board, map computer, camera and monitor switching key board, video thermal printer, quad screen splitter, pan-tilt zoom video cameras, video monitors, two war radio, door access control panel and multi-switcher intercom panel; interpret and explain policies and procedures; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations.
