Job Description:
Job Title: Network & Systems Intern
Department: IT
FLSA: Non Exempt
Hy-Vee, Inc. is a progressive company working on technologies associated with virtualization, mobile computing, supply chain optimization, data warehousing, server clusters and business intelligence. The Information Technology department has a paid internship position available to perform updates to our existing infrastructure. These tasks include working with Active Directory, Networking, staging and deploying workstations as well as various other maintenance tasks and software updates. The position will be Monday through Friday, with travel and overnight stays. The internship will begin in mid-May and conclude in mid-August. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Strong communication skills when working with store and corporate personal.
  • Basic understanding of network devices (switches, firewalls, and routers).
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Basic knowledge of Imaging and applying updates to servers and workstations.
  • Basic knowledge of a scripting language. Example: Bash or PowerShell
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and communicate the issue effectively with supporting staff.
  • Complete required maintenance tasks on network system devices.

Qualifications include working toward, or recently acquired, a degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering or some other technical degree program.
Selected candidates will work up to, and potentially exceeding 40 hours per week.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; interprets instructions
  • Must be able to perform arithmetic and calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • This position requires strong computer and analytical skills. The person must also have strong verbal and written communication skills and be extremely detailed oriented. The person must be well organized and capable of multi-tasking simultaneously

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be physically able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, and color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
